Title: New Overtone layout !! Post by: mcinku on April 15, 2008, 08:14:15 AM As far as I can see Nik has changed the OD level pot to 100K and pre OD resistor from 150K to 220K. Exactly what I'm planing to do with mine OT ;).
That jumper wire on the loop is still there. ??? Everything else looks the same as far as I can tell. 8) Title: Re: New Overtone layout !! Post by: max on April 15, 2008, 01:51:18 PM mcinku
What exactly does that jumper wire do. I am trying to learn all I can but I really feel ignorant sometimes. The other thing is how much change is there from #124, which is 100 watts. And how do I optimize this amp to run el34's..man I have a long way to go in understanding all of this. How is it going for you. :) Burnie 8) :P Title: Re: New Overtone layout !! I'm learning as well. Most of the stuff about ODS style amps, I learned at Amp Garage forum. Those guys there are quite intimidating, so some electrical knowledge is almost a must. I at least have some... but a lot is lost since high school. :'( Title: Re: New Overtone layout !! Post by: hywelg on April 15, 2008, 07:27:47 PM So is the current layout incorrect? I'd like to know before i get to that stage.
Thanks Hywel Harris Title: Re: New Overtone layout !! Post by: mcinku on April 15, 2008, 07:50:26 PM So is the current layout incorrect? I'd like to know before i get to that stage. Thanks Hywel Harris Correct is a relative term... ...if you are after #124 than it's wrong, if you're after D'Lite style amp or many other D style amps I've seen than it's OK, except lose that resistor and cap, it's not needed. :) the rest of the layout is fine Title: Re: New Overtone layout !! I am like you mcinku, I had some electronics training but I have to start over, it's all good though, I enjoy everything about music including this. Title: Re: New Overtone layout !! As far as I know that resistor and cap will do nothing if that jumper wire is there. It is the same as you would have a patch cable plugged in the loop. :) Title: Re: New Overtone layout !! Exactly what I'm planing to do with mine OT ;). what are the benefits doing this?Od level pot 100K makes a smoother transition from light overdrive to a heavy overdrive. When the level pot is 250K the transition is less subtle. Check the ampgarage topic; overtone guts pics. There is a very detailed description there. Title: Re: New Overtone layout !! Post by: mcinku on April 16, 2008, 06:13:32 PM ...exactly what erwin said.
I'm also hoping for smaller volume jump from clean to OD. Currently I'm waiting for the parts, once I have it, I'll report back about my findings. ;) Title: Re: New Overtone layout !! Post by: Steven_nl on April 16, 2008, 07:29:44 PM I have no technical insight at all, but BGsoul was fairly soecific about a few alterations. I'm very curious to hear if the current lay out is an improvement.
