Title: Mini OTS amp or Preamp?
Post by: Pickmaster on April 04, 2009, 02:35:05 PM
I can’t wait when Nik builds mini OTS or OTS based preamp which I’d love to use on my pedalboard  instead of Koch Pedaltone (lovely preamp as well)

Check this out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnvflheg9oE

I've built this pedalboard for direct recording and also travelling purposes.
To be able to switch it straight to the PA and still retain constant worm tube sound everywhere I go, without transporting heavy and expensive tube amps and multispeaker cabinets.
Pedalboard components:
1. International power supply with the hum free toroidal transformer.
2. Koch pedaltone 4 ECC83 tube complete amplifier with FIVE channels funky, clean and three different overdrive gain settings.
3. Digitech RP 250 with LEXICON reverbs and delays, loads of FXs, tuner and volume/expression pedal.
4. Modified Dunlop Cry baby 535Q with true bypass and double indication.
5. Three way stereo (or mono) output for amps, PAs and computer with built in high quality stereo DI box.

I really love your playing, but your tone sounds wery fuzzy on all the overdrive settings, that you show on the clip.

It sounds like a fuzz pedal feed with high output humbuckers and not like a tube amp, sorry.

Still love your playin and your riffs. The clip you showed where you play with your band has a much better tone IMHO.  :)

the OD didnt sound fuzzy but it had a slighty "unnatural" charateristic to it

When I say fuzzy, I mean fuzzy-  don't tell me what I hear  >:(

Thanks guys for listening (watching).
I must be high pitch deaf but anyway it is straight recording to the camera from the pedal.
When played with the band it sits nicely in the mix though.

That’s why I’m waiting to mini OTS or even better OTS preamp with 0,5 w power section like Koch.

Cheers

I’ve recorded same tune with OTS and Koch pedaltone and here they are for comparison.
I think there is no much difference between them.
I like OTS more but my son prefers Koch. ;D :P
