Title: Mesa Preamp into Overtone Special Post by: gwp on March 09, 2010, 05:40:22 PM I have just unwrapped, prepared and plugged in my newly arrived Overtone Special...just waiting for the tubes to warm...(haven't even plugged in yet!)
While I am waiting, I thought I would ask if there is a way of using my Mesa FormulaPre preamp with the Overtone Special? Thanks Title: Re: Mesa Preamp into Overtone Special Post by: JD0x0 on March 09, 2010, 08:33:02 PM depending on what you want to do with it. you can either plug into the normal input and use the mesa preamp like a pedal (activating the PAB will bypass the tonestack to let the mesa shine through more) or plug the mesa into the effects loop input which will bypass the preamp and just use the poweramp

Edit...after a few hours with the OT, I am not in a rush to change anything...but I will give your suggestions a go in a week or so...so far, the OT on track1 / Mesa on track2 combo is very good...although I will try the Mesa into the OT later. Using the Effects Loop input for the Mesa as the initial input is something I never would have considered...thanks. Thanks You might want to use the preamp out of the OTS --->stereo processor--->returns of Formula ---->record outs of the Formula for recording straight to the boards, now with speaker emulation. I have a Formula Pre as well. Great clean channel, classic Boogie distortion channels, but hard not to sound like a Boogie. This is exactly why Nik needs to make an OTS preamp like Quinnamps. I agree - after a week with the amp, I am keeping the MesaFormula as a separate amp. The OTS sounds great as is. Thanks for the feedback. |
