Title: Just ordered a HRM. Now the wait begins
Post by: Nairbr on September 12, 2009, 01:11:03 PM
Hi Everybody

I'm new to this forum and I just ordered a HRM yesterday fully assembled from Nik and now the long wait begins, it's going to be a long 6-8 weeks.

I have owned a variety of amps through the years (Fenders, Marshalls and Boogies)  and decided to go for something that was affordable but exotic, hence the HRM.

My last amp was a Fender Supersonic, which was a good amp but it has a few drawbacks, mainly a huge volume difference between the Vibrolux and Bassman channels and in the end it was the deciding factor to sell it on Evilbay. So the only amp I have left now to play through is a 5 watt Blackstar HT5.

I hope I will be able share some experiences with everybody on this forum especially on how to set these beasts up for various guitars, efx and music styles.

Cheers
Brian

Great, have you ordered a kit of a completed amp?

I ordered a complete amp and head cab. I'm ok with a soldering iron but get a little worried soldering anything that will have lethal voltages going through it.

That's a good decision..... more people should probably buy finsihed amps.

Some of the questions on this forum indicate, that not all people have the knowledge needed for high voltage amps, in which case its pretty stupid to mess with such amps.

I don't know, I think some people might not have the specialist electronics knowledge but are very practical minded and can work things out.

I do know that the experience has fired my desire to know more. I found this the other day
http://www.freewebs.com/valvewizard1/gainstage.html (http://www.freewebs.com/valvewizard1/gainstage.html)
and sat for well over an hour today reading it the chapter until my brain was full, will have another go soon.

I've also ordered a couple of Kevin o'Connors books aswell.

I know if I'd just ordered the complete amp I wouldn't be anywhere near as interested in the physics. (maybe it would have saved me from the continual amp GAS though ;D)

I know....... but I think we should encourage people to build their own, given a few obvious warnings about killing themselves if they a re stupid ;D
