Hi All

Just turned on my Bluesmaster OTS and noticed that the indicator light seems to have blown- amp working fine otherwise. I'm no builder but reckon I could have a stab at fixing this if it's just a matter of replacing the bulb? I'm aware of the dangerous high voltages in tube amps of course - can the caps be drained in this amp by switching the main power switch off and leaving the stand by on? Not sure if there are any hot spots near the lamp but I'll be careful and if necessary ask a builder friend to help. The layout seems to indicate 6.3v to the lamp- does anyone know where I'd get a replacement? I live in Ireland so any UK / Europe supplier would be great...

I had the same problem. Just open the amp, get the broken bulb out of there, take it to any shop who sells electronic parts (they should have those kinds of bulbs, theyre pretty standard) and solder the new one to the spot where the old one was :)

(Note: I have nearly no idea of electronics, amps, etc., but it worked for me this way  ;D )

I had the same problem and 'converted' my lamp from blub to LED instead.

LED sounds like a good long term solution- was the conversion hard to do?

No 5-10minutes tops

Whats the part number/type of LED etc. Like I said, I'm not a builder but if I know I've got the correct part I'll have a go. Care to elaborate on the conversion?

Hi the 5mm LED sounds like a great idea as my indicator bulb has blown a few times

The LED's i've seen online though are only approx 2volts not 6volts like the bulbs, will this do any damage?

just add a 470R resistor and a 1n4007 diode and you'll be fine.

Sorry but for a complete novice (me) how are the 3 components connected together to get the LED operating properly?

Thanks- my schematic reading abilities are not great- contacted Nik & he said have a look at the c-lator layout but I couldn't make sense of that either  ???- I guess I'd need a photo of how to hook the 3 components together...Nik's sending me a replacement lamp so all's well

From the schematic, the resistor is connected in series with the anode of the diode to anode of LED. The anode of diode is the side without the stripe, and usually the long lead of the LED.
