OK...here's a tough question:  How do I get more 'bloom' from my amp?

I'm finding it a little stiff and would be curious as to what contributes to the overall bloomyness?

The amp should be thoroughly broken in (30+ hours of actual playing time) with a broken in speaker as well.  and like the other gent said... light touch... pick attack....

Sorry guys I don't get the lighter touch/pick thing etc.
What did help for me was; messing with the trimpot for the phase inverter and get the right pre amp tubes.

Besides playing there are possibilities in the amp to make it bloom.

This is kinda where I'm thinking.  I've tried the playing/pick attach thing.  I'm a little nervous to go playing with the phase invertor pot...does anybody have guidance on the proper settings?  I thought you need an ocilliscope for this?  That's just scary.... Shocked

You dont need an oscilloscope, you can tweak it by ear, you wont hurt the amp, just be careful where you put your fingers Grin

OR if you have a DMM take a reading between pin 1 and ground and pin 6 and ground on your phase inverter valve.

Most people seem to like the tone when theres around 6 to 10 volts more on pin 1 than 6 - I find 10 perfect on my HRM

What does that look like if you measure at the phase inverter?   I've used the trimmer to match the sides of the PI.  Never checked at the tube.

Do you mean you've balanced the trimmer itself, i.e resistance wise?
You really want to measure the DC voltage on pin1 and 6 on the under side of the valve base if you're after a true reading

So I had a look at this.  I measured the resistance on the pot before adjustments so I can get back home if I need to.

When I checked it, there was only 3 volts in the difference (pin 1>GND vs pin 6>GND).  So I started playing with it and I can only get about 5.5 volts in the difference.  Is there something wrong?

No, probably not, you might simply have an unbalanced valve, try another one.
