Title: Increasing 'Bloom'??? Post by: phil esposito on March 09, 2010, 06:34:25 PM OK...here's a tough question: How do I get more 'bloom' from my amp?
I'm finding it a little stiff and would be curious as to what contributes to the overall bloomyness? Thanks! Title: Re: Increasing 'Bloom'??? Post by: bluesfendermanblues on March 09, 2010, 08:25:39 PM Play with a lighter touch and pick attack
Title: Re: Increasing 'Bloom'??? Post by: roadapple on March 09, 2010, 09:42:51 PM The amp should be thoroughly broken in (30+ hours of actual playing time) with a broken in speaker as well. and like the other gent said... light touch... pick attack....

Sorry guys I don't get the lighter touch/pick thing etc. I'm finding it a little stiff and would be curious as to what contributes to the overall bloomyness? Thanks! What did help for me was; messing with the trimpot for the phase inverter and get the right pre amp tubes. Title: Re: Increasing 'Bloom'??? I've tried the playing/pick attach thing. I'm a little nervous to go playing with the phase invertor pot...does anybody have guidance on the proper settings? I thought you need an ocilliscope for this? That's just scary.... :o Title: Re: Increasing 'Bloom'??? Post by: dt125 on March 10, 2010, 06:02:14 PM You dont need an oscilloscope, you can tweak it by ear, you wont hurt the amp, just be careful where you put your fingers ;D
OR if you have a DMM take a reading between pin 1 and ground and pin 6 and ground on your phase inverter valve. Most people seem to like the tone when theres around 6 to 10 volts more on pin 1 than 6 - I find 10 perfect on my HRM Title: Re: Increasing 'Bloom'??? Post by: shebbycaster on March 14, 2010, 05:40:10 PM What does that look like if you measure at the phase inverter? I've used the trimmer to match the sides of the PI. Never checked at the tube.
Title: Re: Increasing 'Bloom'??? Post by: dt125 on March 15, 2010, 11:08:21 PM Do you mean you've balanced the trimmer itself, i.e resistance wise?
You really want to measure the DC voltage on pin1 and 6 on the under side of the valve base if you're after a true reading Title: Re: Increasing 'Bloom'??? Post by: phil esposito on March 17, 2010, 06:10:19 PM So I had a look at this. I measured the resistance on the pot before adjustments so I can get back home if I need to.
When I checked it, there was only 3 volts in the difference (pin 1>GND vs pin 6>GND). So I started playing with it and I can only get about 5.5 volts in the difference. Is there something wrong?
