Title: hrm50 power supply board wiring question Post by: Tahoebrian5 on January 21, 2012, 02:41:48 AM Ok, this is probably obvious to an experenced amp guy but has me a bit confused.
On the power supply board, on the + side of the large 300v 200mF capacitors there are several wires., K (the rectified supply), then "OT CT" , then the choke leads. Where does the OT CT go to. Thanks much! Title: Re: hrm50 power supply board wiring question Post by: wyatt on January 21, 2012, 04:48:43 AM OT CT...Output Transformer Center Tap.
The center tap on the primary winding of the output transformer. That wire feeds the the plate voltage through the OT and to the plates of the power tubes. I don't want to pee on anyone's Wheaties, but this isn't an "experienced" issue, this is a "if you don't know this you may be in over your head" red flag. I just dont know amps It would help immensely if Nik posted schematics. You can find some schematics over at The Amp Garage, Nik's amps are derived from those very same schematics , but Nik eschewed TAG's near fanatical attention to detail of the original Dumbles by developing his own streamlined and more efficient layouts. So the Ceriatone HRM won't match up exactly to the schematics/layouts over there (I think Nik's layouts are better), but you can use those schematics as references with a few caveats. Hopefully, you already own this book...if you don't buy it... http://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Amplifier-Handbook-Understanding-Amplifiers/dp/087930863X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1327173302&sr=8-3 Title: Re: hrm50 power supply board wiring question Post by: Tahoebrian5 on January 22, 2012, 02:15:23 AM Thanks for the resources! That looks like a great book and would have been very helpfull had I read it before embarking on this project.
Hey, one more general question. What are the pro's con's or different applications for stranded wire vs solid? What are the pro's con's or different applications for stranded wire vs solid? Solid...pro: bends easy and stays in place. con: potential to break (but in an amp chassis, it won't be seeing a lot of mechanical stress) Stranded...exact opposite Use whichever is the easiest for you. People seem evenly split. |
