It might be that all of you out there are fully aware of this, but in case you are not: By accident, I happened to pull the level knob on my HRM yesterday. I had no idea it could be pulled. The result was stunning. It gave my Les Paul some Marshall-like top that I really like. It also gave my strat a nice "sizzle" on the lead sounds. There is nothing about pulling the level knob in the manual, so I asked Nik. He laughed and said that this is a well hidden secret that can take years to discover. Nic says it is simply a bright switch for the OD channel. I really like it. It would be interesting to hear what other people think of this switch. Guitar sound is a matter of taste after all.

Interesting - I didn't know these had this. It's just the plain HRM's, not the Bluesmasters or MkII's.

No, that first volume bright switch is on all of the HRM models - this one on the OD level knob is unique to the plain HRM model.

It's on my Bluesmaster.  Pretty sure that 1) it's on all the HRM models (the bright toggle is on the regular OTS), and 2) it affects both the clean and OD channels.

Hmm, I never noticed the manual doesn't mention it.

I just knew about it due to building the amp and knowing that pot was a push/pull with a bright cap.

I use them for varying degrees of tone change, especially with the C-lator and humbuckers. But they're also great for single coils too. I find they can be helpful as my strings start to go dead. Just enough extra sauce.  Wink

Yes. To clarify: All the HRM models (the plain HRM, the Bluesmaster, and the MK2) have the pull bright switch on the first volume control - this is similar to the bright toggle switch on the OTS models. BUT what the OP is referring to is the other pull knob on the Level pot in the overdrive section - this is apparently a different bright switch just for the overdrive channel. So no, you do not have this on your bluesmaster. Unless it's been modded. I don't have it on my bluesmaster.

This is very true, sduck. I've though about putting one on mine so I can switch the stock bright cap on the OD level pot off. With the HRM bypassed the Level has to be dropped so it sits on the bright cap. Or maybe I should get off my butt and find the right resistor for the bypass so there won't be such a volume jump Smiley

Overdrive is like peanut butter. Some like it crunchy, some like it creamy.
Bluesmaster 50 2x12 combo and some guitars.
