Silly question perhaps but do I really need to be using two mic's and two seperate channels on my desk to get the best out of this set-up at gigs?

Anyone got any suggestions or tricks for mic'ing mixed speaker 2x12 cabinets? Type of mic's, placement etc...

Cheers guys

You can mic the CGold off axis towards the center of the cab to pickup both speakers. The EVM is more efficient than the gold so the mic would have no trouble picking it up.

That said you can probably get better results with two mics, but it'll take some dialing in, which is why this option should be more for when youre in the studio. IMO

Thanks for the reply.... Smiley

So if I place the mic directly in front of the C Gold but pointing towards the EVM it'll pick up the detail of both speakers? Is that what you mean?

What sort of mic would you recommend for this? I currently use an SM57

I've heard loads of people on the forum talking about mixing different speakers in their 2x12's, what do all you guys do when you need to mic up at a gig?

Much appreciated

When I was using a mixed cab (EvM12-L & a Celestion G1265) I mic'd the Celestion and the Ev was powerful enough that the Sm57 picked up the lower frequencies it produced. I soon changed to just a 2x12 with 65's although.
