Title: HRM 50 Preamp versus Output Valve Distortion
Post by: Jay Menon on September 15, 2011, 11:04:53 PM
I wonder - do the ceriatone HRM amps sound best when they are driven hard (with output valve distortion) or is the 'Dumble Sound' more related to preamp distortion?

The latter would be good, since it would make the amp great for bedroom use  ;D

Expert opinions most appreciated.

Preamp.

But they really open up the more they're cranked.

Some might think they're not the best "bedroom" amp, but I feel you can get very good (recordable) sounds at lower volumes.

Thanks - that's good to know.  The overdrive channel on mine certainly sounds good even at civilised volumes indoors...so I think you are right, the essence of the tone is in the preamp section.
