Title: How involved would these cosmetic touches be? Post by: casken on September 30, 2008, 03:58:11 PM I have a fully built cab OTS from Nik. My questions concern a few additions to its appearance.
1) To put metal corners on it, I assume the body (which is covered in tolex) of it is made of wood and simply drilling pilot holes and installing corners is all I'll need to to there. Am I correct? Will the Fender corners (readily available on the net) fit properly? Is there a size designation I should look for? 2) I'd like to put a black (semi transparent) cloth like is on my speaker cab on the front of the amp. How involved is that? How much of the cab will have to be dismantled to allow me to do it properly? Are there tricks of the trade I need to know? I appreciate your insights. I would think a Fender style will fit, but aren't sure without having a cab to check them on, but a set of 4 is less than $5. I would think they may look a little odd with the rest of the metal trim already on Nik's OTS cab. 2) I'd like to put a black (semi transparent) cloth like is on my speaker cab on the front of the amp. You'll have to replace the front panel on the cabinet. Though you may be able to just stretch the grill cloth fabric over the panel, I dunno. Title: Re: How involved would these cosmetic touches be? Post by: nickm57 on October 01, 2008, 04:15:49 AM I did the corners, should have been done in the first place. Just watch the radius of the corner to the cab.
The original fender and the ones I bought have recessed screw holes, you will need to countersink the holes for these. A little persuasion with a rubber mallet is also needed. Get 3/4 inch (not 3/8) two tab, flush holed corners. I build my own cabs so I don't know what stock Nik is using but just measure it....it looks like 3/4. I'd lose the bent around trim ring and go for a panel with your cloth and bead trim....but that's just my taste.
