Title: How Can I Brighten Up My 100 Watt Bluesmaster?
Post by: Animalboy71 on July 11, 2015, 08:10:21 PM
Hey guys,

So I love my Bluesmaster but I find I have to put my Treble & Presence on 10 as well as pull the "Bright" switch in order to get that nice chimey tone I love. This is with single coils. I generally disengage the tone stack but I'd like it to be useful as well.

My question: Is there a simple mod I can do to change the arc of the tone stack? I love the bass on this thing but I need more brightness!!!

I've read a few things about changing the values of the slope resister. Some are for this, some are against it. Is there any other type of simple mod such as changing the value on a particular capacitor?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

Clean or OD channel?

OD channel has three internal (post-OD) trimmers that you can adjust (bass, mid, treb). That's what I did for my OD channel to get more high end for the OD.

Also, this is such a great amp that choice of speakers plays a big role as well. (I use Weber speakers... A) 2x12 cab and a 1x15 cab or B) 4x10 cab and 2x12 cab). Using the 4x10 cab is brighter, chimier speaker configuration for me.

For single coils using clean channel, try rolling off the guitar volume... I rarely have my guitar volume higher than 8 with my single coils. Lower the neck and middle pickups on my strat. For tele... bridge pickup is high, neck pickup is low.

My current settings for single coil...
Vol: 3-4
Master 3-4
Treb: 6
Mid: 6
Bass:3
Bright switch engaged
Presence: 8-9
I only use the PAB footswitch when I need a volume boost for clean channel.

Use NOS preamp tubes... JJ's for Power tubes.

That's all I know... Good luck and enjoy the amp.

I know this is an old thread, but I've been outta commission for a while. Had a stroke back in August, jest getting back into the forum. As a long tine BM owner I have a few questions. What speakers are ya using? Which preamp tubes are ya running? Have you adjusted the HRM stack? Are you using the PAB when using the OD? If not, you are going through two tonestacks, which results in mud.
I can tell you that switching the slope resistor is easy, I even have the parts to make an adjustable slope resistor. Just have gotten around to it. Hope this helps!
