Title: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: ampkits on October 25, 2008, 04:13:09 PM Hello,
It has to happen! ;D A scaled down, single ended overtone special. Bare bones, but with all the tones. No footswitching, you toggle it via a switch on the front plate. This is my contribution (some at another place will argue it's my greed, but thats OK) for low volume D style amp, and for those on a budget. It should serve as a good introduction to this style, without breaking the bank (I hope). Price unknown yet but believe me I am trying hard to keep it real low for this type of handwired amp! Should be released in 3 weeks or so. Thanks! Nik Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: JUN42 on October 26, 2008, 08:58:51 AM Very interesting ! :)
Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: ampkits on October 26, 2008, 12:00:27 PM Hello
Thanks. For those in the know, they can actually take out the signal (the mini wont have loop) and it'd act sort of like a preamp. So perhaps, at prices close to a solid state D style pedal, people can actually get the D style preamp, tubes. Of course, amp must be on load at all times, even if used as a preamp. Perhaps Id put 2 standby swicthes - 1 for preamp, and 1 for power amp. A derivative of this would definitely be an actual preamp (no power stage), but I am getting ahead of myself. Thanks! Nik Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: Pickmaster on October 26, 2008, 05:24:08 PM Hello Thanks. Nik Hi Nick, Nice to hear that. D style preamp (RECKMOUNTABLE) with channel and boost switch, would be a great idea. One can use it together with good rack processor and stereo tube power amp like VHT, Marshall, Mesa or CERIATONE 2-50w power amp (I’m dreaming) ::). Anyway small D amp is good idea as well, I already have couple of guys interested here in UK. Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: mcinku on October 26, 2008, 07:30:33 PM Nik I'm not sure if you're aware that I just bought another amp from you and now this...
...my wife will divorce me. ... man you are the devil him self. ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: spm on October 26, 2008, 09:45:34 PM Yeah.. more overtones ;D
Sounds interesting .... Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: hywelg on October 26, 2008, 10:29:28 PM Nik if you are planning a Single ended amp, better if it could be around 10 watts or so. I have a 5w SE (Ampmaker) which started me off with this bug, but I find it a little underpowered for rehearsals with an overpowering drummer.
Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: AdrianJ on October 28, 2008, 04:54:03 PM Sounds like an awesome recording amp!!
Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: ampkits on November 06, 2008, 06:38:34 PM Hi Mirc,
Thanks man. I try my worst! :) Thanks! Devil Nik I'm not sure if you're aware that I just bought another amp from you and now this... ...my wife will divorce me. ... man you are the devil him self. ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: ampkits on November 06, 2008, 06:40:28 PM Nik if you are planning a Single ended amp, better if it could be around 10 watts or so. Please buy the full featured amp for gigs and rehearsals! LOL! I might even color it pink so the missus will like it. The only mod I'd do is to have it vibrate via footswitch. Thanks! Nik Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: Alpedra on November 06, 2008, 08:58:06 PM Damn... this looks interesting indeed...
Edit: 5w will not be too little? Because the 50w overtone is not that loud (at least on the clean channel)... Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: JD0x0 on November 06, 2008, 09:37:53 PM i think Nik should make it about 10 watts via 6L6 or EL34 and have i 6V6 bias switch to lower the power to around 5 watts
Kindof like the Fuchs lucky 7. Fixed bias 7 watts for EL 34 less than 5 watts for 6V6 Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: poipounder57 on November 07, 2008, 04:45:01 AM I think I need to have one of these devil amps ;D My wife is going to kill me if she finds out I'm going to purchase another amp.
I've been trying to not give into my GAS attacks...it's only a month or so since the last attack. Which...by the way was cured with a SC245 Goldtop ;D Now this...arrrgh...I must be good...I must be good... Nik...pretty soon? ;D Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: Alpedra on November 07, 2008, 09:52:43 AM Let´s se.. at least 3 weeks.. maybe a bit more.. and then the built time if you order one of the first..
Don´t worry.. you have enough time to behave well. :D But I do wished it was a mini-HRM instead of a mini-nonHRM-overtone (hint, hint) :D Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: hywelg on November 07, 2008, 11:20:50 AM C'mon Nik, lets have a look at one! My mates after a good practice amp but he's keen to get one soon.
Will it have a OD trimmer? Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: poipounder57 on November 13, 2008, 04:07:52 AM Anytime soon? ;D
Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: Kitarist on November 14, 2008, 09:55:28 PM Hehe interesting :D :D
Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: poipounder57 on November 14, 2008, 11:33:46 PM Well...my case of GAS got the best of me. I just ordered a 36Watt EF86 ;D I was going to post in the 36 Watt seciton...none to be found :P
I guess the Mini will have to wait for my next GAS attack ;D Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: marinblues on November 18, 2008, 07:20:33 AM Nik,
Excellent idea!!!!!! :D This will be a killer product! which circuit? (non-HRM/HRM) Marin Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: mcinku on November 18, 2008, 07:30:03 AM I assume it's non-HRM.
After all, Nik said it's "single ended overtone special". ;) Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: hywelg on November 18, 2008, 09:11:29 AM I'm getting desperate. I want to order another amp, its either a DC-30 or this SE and every week I wait the UK£ sinks further into the mire.
And then theres the talk of a 36watt/plexi hybrid! That sounds very very tempting. Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: mcinku on November 18, 2008, 09:49:51 AM I'm getting desperate. That sounds very very tempting. I know what you mean. It looks like a happy hour for the amps is dying slowly. A month ago, I ordered a TW Expression and that was the last train for me, no more amps for me. :'( In a way I'm glad, 'cause at least I won't be tempted that easily anymore. ;) Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: hywelg on November 18, 2008, 10:06:29 AM I know what you mean. Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: djroge1 on December 01, 2008, 02:43:54 AM as a beginner who has yet to build his first amp, I am curious about this one. I'm itching to order my first kit and try building.

Its certainly not the SE, I can see two poweramp valves. Shame the link to the page isn't working yet. I'm intrigued Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: mcinku on December 01, 2008, 10:14:35 AM You're right
(http://www.ceriatone.com/images/completeAmpsPic/Overtone/DSCF0705B.jpg) Maybe Nik changed his mind about this? Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: mcinku on December 01, 2008, 10:34:13 AM Hey, the link is working now.
;) It looks like a pre mod OTS. Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: djroge1 on December 01, 2008, 05:51:27 PM Hello, It has to happen! ;D A scaled down, single ended overtone special. Actually it looks like the first version of the OTS that came out.. which was changed later to the current version after some mods suggested by a few forum users (JZucker in particular). Probably some people asked for the old version, after hearing Sami and Marin clips (which used early versions OTS to make those clips), and Nik decided to have it, again, available for customers who were after those sounds.. The S&M is not a mini-OTS. Not at all.. I am a total newby when it comes to building amps so I asked you guys about your thoughts on building the OTS as a first build and I also emailed Nik to get his opinion and mentioned this thread - a 5watt mini. Here is his reply to my email, "Indeed, I'd not recommend the OTS as 1st time build, it can get complicated although some others have done it successfully. Yes, we're releasing a single ended D style amp, that one will be much simpler to do! Perhaps wait for that one, at the end of the month? Thanks! Nik" I've already decided I am going to build my next amp and I really want an OTS so I'm waiting and watching!! All the time you're not selling this, we're not buying it ;) Seriously, I'd like to know what this thing is going to look like. And GAS isn't a proper reason for a divorce anyway. Any news? Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: EdV on February 19, 2009, 08:01:31 PM Nik,
PLEASE throw us a bone about the Overtone Mini 5 SE...it sounds like a perfect fit for so many of us on the forums. Have you prototyped it yet, or is it still in the idea phase? Many thanks, EdV Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: dannysgrandpa on March 14, 2009, 05:03:49 AM OTS was my first build. Took a long time, but was not as bad as I had heard. I had never built any amp before and mine is quite nice. I even built the cab from red oak.
Title: Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE Post by: djroge1 on March 18, 2009, 04:43:35 AM I've been waiting to see what is developed and comes out, but I grow weary of the wait. Those Brown Note 22watt amps sound pretty good.
