Title: Got my FM50 with builtin Clator today
Post by: Dilletant on April 06, 2011, 09:02:20 PM
Hi guys,
just got my FM 50 today and as i am very busy in the job i won't have time to post clips before 8 weeks or so, but i never played such a nice amp. No, i am not payed to write this or what ever...it's just the entire process of getting my first "Boutique Amp" was an absolut experience.Had the chance to meet Nik and his crew in person and they are so friendly and approachable at all times. This is the Amp i'll never ever sell and for sure i'll have another one. Really lots of tone and no noise.I'll put some clips online whenever i have some time. Now i need to bring up my playing to suit such a fantastic Amp. Thanks to Ceriatone. @ Nik with the next Amp consider the T Shirt XXXL cause i drink a lot of beer :-)

Glad to hear you got your dream amp. I would love to see some photos when you get a chance. I know what it's like to be busy. I have way more thing I want to do than minutes in the day.

Do you live near Nik or did you take a trip?

Definitely post some pictures... if you can.

...some gut pictures of the amp would be nice as well. I think we didn't see any Ceriatone with build in Clator yet.
 ;)

Yes be sure i will post some pics and clips if i have a bit more time, got one from my phone yesterday, not really good quality, sorry.  One thing the C-lator is really an absolute "must" (for me) just played some minutes and still need to figure the settings out! But this thing makes the tone sweet...i'd say (depending on your style) no pedals needed. Having said that i run a DD7 and a Blackstar Trem/Chorus in the loop and a MXR 109 FUZZ and a Dirty Bomb and VOX or Cry Baby in the front...the Fuzz comes very, very nice now...

@Chris, yes it feels very good, i'll post as some i have some more time. At the moment unfortunately very little time for playing etc. as i am in training for the next six weeks, but i make some photos earlier!
I made a trip to KL and asked Nik if i could pass by, very impressive to see how it's all done and all of the guys there where really friendly.

Cheers,
Andelko

Aaaaaa now I get it... I thought your Clator is build within the amp it self.

REALLY :o

Am I the only one who didnt get a shirt? :D

Congrats on the amp, I went with the FM50 as well and love it. Assume yours is the modern eagle mod as well? I've only tried the kleinulator so far and plan on building c-lator, it definately makes the amp more user friendly.

I didn't get one either....oh well! ;)
Maybe they're just for those who get a complete amp? I have the "too large for most t-shirts" problem also, so chance are it wouldn't fit either. :P

Yeah oh well all I got was this silly amp, it fits me perfect though :D
I just thought some would think its funny that after spending close to $1000 on an amp the only problem I have is not getting a shirt.
I like to keep things on the funny side, life is serious enough.
OK I will not say anything about the shirt again.
Shirt, shirt,shirt, shirt, shit,shirt...................................................................
I promise

I got one with a complete amp I bought from Nik but when I ordered a Kit, no T Shirt. So it must only be with complete amps

Yes... if you want a t-shirt you need to get a wired amp. I bought quite some kits and completely wired amps and that was always the case.

Hi guys...well i didn't wanted to put Nik in trouble...in the end he'll be busy with manufacturing T's and not his lovely amps.
I was wondering how solid and heavy the amp is. I will post pictures later today, eventually some clips, but i haven't found the tone yet...(apart from the fact that i am lousy player) so be a little patient with the clips please.

@Wilcox...Thanks. man, you really should get the Clator it is unbelievable what this thing does to it, i couldn't believe it. That's what i think. Cool thing in not having it in the Amp is that you can run another amp too if you wish. I have set it up with my Blackstar Series One 45 and plan do rig it as a dual amp set up.
@mcinku, yeah, have it built in into the head cab....i had aask to have it in the amp when i was ordering but there's not enough space.

Guess i'll post clips later on myspace. If somebody is interested to hear the blackstar...just have a look at www.myspace.com/andelko64 "Heute ist danach" sorry, did some songs in my mother tongue but the amp speaks english though i believe ;-)

Right away apologies for my playing/music...but then i just love to make music and that's what it is. ;-)
It's a great experiment and i love the message of music...Rock on!!!
Cool forum.

Dilletant, Just listened to the songs on myspace. You're a very talented guy. I love the song "Journey".

As I was listening, I kept saying "this guy has been influenced by Pink Floyd, and more so Mr. Waters". Then I decided to take a look at your website and was checking out your photos and saw the concert photos and it was confirmed. Just to let you know, I'm a big fan myself. Your other photos are great also.

Keep up the music production and play that new amp and get it recorded. As you might have read, the OTS's need to be broken in and will sound better and better as you play.

Anyway, love your work.  :)

Hi Chris,

thank you very much for your opinion and it really was nice to hear that you like it. We make music for ourselves but then i guess we all like it if it is liked. You are right i love prog rock...and pink floyd is very cool. I wished i had 1% of JH talent too. Not fishing for compliments now, but i am very limited at the moment but the nice thing is while you try to get the stuff out of your head one learns.

As far i can say the OTS is a marvelous tone machine, it takes a while to understand it though but i will give it a shot once i am finished with my training course, then it's gonna be music, music, music ;-)
The solo on Journey is played by my friend Tom Redmann who is really a gifted player, i have written this song for a friend who passed away very suddenly. It has to be recorded properly.

What do you play Chris? Thanks again for your nice comment Chris and keep "rocking the house"!  ;-)

PS
(I thought always that this amp has a lot of potential to be used outside of RF style and when you put a M-173/108 Fuzz and a Dirty Bomb on it is just very cool)

What do you play Chris?
If you mean influences, I'm sort of all over the map. (to a point) at one point or the other I was heavy into anything from John McLaughlin, Santana, Jeff Beck, Steve Morse to Pat Metheny, Lary Carlton, Mike Sipe, to my prog rock, David Gilmour, Steve Howe, Robert Fripp. And then there's Jimi....Hendrix & Page, and even Jerry Garcia (an no, I'm not a dead head) just like to hear someone take guitar around & around. There's a bunch more, but that sums it up pretty well.

Yeah, I have a bunch of nifty pedals that I'm anxious to try out on the HRM 50. I've been sort of holding off putting anything in front of the amp just yet. I'm soaking in all the goodness just by itself.  ;) I do have a few hand built fuzz's and a Xotic BB preamp that I'm thinking will sound killer. And a nice optical compressor & clone UniVibe that always sound cool. I'm getting there.

I'm building the head cabinet myself and still have to put speakers in the cabinet I have for this setup. I'm almost finished the head and about to pull the trigger on some speakers. I left room in the head to put a C/D-lator. I haven't decided whether to buy the C-lator kit or source the parts myself and build a D-lator. Probably the later.

that's all good stuff and i think you are very right, literally there's no need for pedals. The amp has really a huge range of sounds i just found out that using effects very subtle has it's own magic. If you have a good tip for a cool sounding Univibe it would be appreciated!

Wow, that's cool you build it yourself, for sure i will have another of Nik's babies and then i'll try the same probably.
Sold my MF400 4x12 recently and run the FM at the moment through the 2x12 speakers of the Blackstar (Celestion Vintage 30's) very good clean sounds. But i am planning to make or buy another 2x12 Cab for the FM. I want to run a dual amp setup then guess that's gonna be a real interesting sound. What speakers you are thinking of? Know a lot of guys take two different speakers in. Thinking of G12H's or Classic Lead. Let me hear something once you're done Chris.

cheers,
Andelko

I built the Univibe myself. It's based on the R.G. Keen design www.geofex.com (http://www.geofex.com) (which is just about an exact reproduction of the original) & what is known as the "ForumVibe" from here http://classicamplification.net/Forumvibe/ForumVibe_File.htm (http://classicamplification.net/Forumvibe/ForumVibe_File.htm)

It sounds great, much like the original. Probably better in someways. I found most present day Univibes don't cut it sound wise. Or they are way to expensive if they do sound good. I would suggest a Fultone DejaVibe http://www.fulltone.com/stpframe.html (http://www.fulltone.com/stpframe.html) if I was to buy one retail. I actually did own one (an older version) and I liked it a bunch. But, sold it like a dummy. Although I'm happy now with mine. I will get some clips up sometime soon...I hope.
P.S. I just playing through a Vintage 30 from another amp also. I'm looking to get a G12-65 type speaker(s).

Here's some pics of the one I built.

Yes...nice job Chris and it sounds very interesting.
Guess it's not very easy to build one yourself, for this i would like to dig into electronics.
Thanks for your tip Chris, i probably should start a course in electronics and soldering!

I would offer to build one for you if you were not so far away. It would be cheaper to buy one then to pay for all the shipping and everything.
