Title: Footswitch connector Post by: hywelg on April 11, 2008, 01:49:40 PM Currently its a 5 pin DIN connector but I want to change this to XLR so I can use locking connectors, plus be able to easily extend it and eventually make a permanent fix to my pedal board.
Anyone any reasons why I shouldn't do it. I'll have to mod the rear panel for a Neutrik panel mount locking connector, but I'm not wedded to this being a Dumble look-a-like as long as it sounds good. Thanks in advance Hywel Harris Title: Re: Footswitch connector Post by: ic-racer on April 11, 2008, 03:22:03 PM The 80s Dumbles used Switchcraft 5-pin XLR connectors for the footswitch. I got my XLR jack and plug from mouser.com. My chassis came with pre-drilled holes, but they mount the jack up-side-down compared to a real Dumble. On the real thing, the little button is on the top, not the bottom.

Hey Nik I bet everybody would gladly pay a few dollars more for better connectors!! Title: Re: Footswitch connector Post by: ic-racer on April 11, 2008, 11:36:59 PM The later '90's' Dumbles, though, use a DIN connector (like the Overtone), so Mr. D switched over for some reason...
Title: Re: Footswitch connector Post by: gbergl on April 12, 2008, 03:10:32 AM There is a cable that will lock onto the 5 pin DIN jack (available at Mouser electronics). I used this for awhile but switched to a 5 pin MIDI jack so I could use a right angle cable and leave it plugged in without worrying about it getting bumped and damage to the jack and cable. In my opinion an XLR cable is even more risky for getting hit and causing damage to the chassis or the jack.
Furthermore, 5 pins are required to properly wire the footswitch with LEDs to indicate if it's on or off. XLR cables do not include 5 wires - as far as I know. Title: Re: Footswitch connector Post by: hywelg on April 12, 2008, 08:47:46 AM XLR connectors are much more robust. Search for Neutrik NC5FDL1 and you'll see what I mean. XLR' do come in up to 7 pin configs.
