Does anyone have any idea how I might mod it so that the bright switch only comes into play when on the clean channel?

yes, by putting on a relay that you connect to the OD/Clean relay.

I just done the same to the mid boost, so it only comes into play, when I engage the OD.

OK so I can't piggy back onto the existing channel relay I'd need to install another one?

Yes, you have to install another relay, because both poles are used on the OD/CL realy. However, you just have to connect the new realy to the plus side and minus side og the OD/CL relay and wupti, you can put the bright cap on pole and the mid cap on the other if you like.
