Title: Re: DHL at the door Post by: Steven_nl on July 03, 2008, 07:45:16 AM short impression. After 30 minutes (21.30 is a bit late to make alot of noise)
I use it with a cab with two G12-65's. Amp was packed well and looks great. Looks good on my Tube Town cab as well. he cab is a little wider. Nik has added the empty tube boxes (JJ's) which is good if you want to replace them. And a Ceriatone T-Shirt cool! OK the amp Yoy can do a lot with the cleans. Tonestack is very responsive. Using the deep switch makes an enormous difference (also in volume). I don't doubt I'll be able to get a great sound. Would love to hear other peoples settings. For now I used rock and bright on; deep off. OD channel needs a lot of attention. if you turn up the gain to much you get a terrible edge (Fizz) on the sound. But there's no need to turn the gain up to much I guess. This is not a high gain amp. Using the booster switch makes the clean sound a lot louder but I feel it also sounds a bit boxy. It depends a bit on how you play I think. It does give a good boost. This is just a first impression and not a serious one. I tried to hook up the Kleinulator as well, which gave me a headache. (9v plug isn't standard 2.1 mm and I need to work out hoe to use the output and recovery dials). It does work I could boost the signal going into my G Sharp reverb. No idea how it affects the tone. the teble switches didn't seem to do much. Once again first quick impression. I was worried a bit about the speakers. I was afraid they would turn out to be to dark and to lack sparkle. I have the feeling there is no problem whatsoever there. There's so much to set up here (amp fx etc etc and every guitar sounds different) so I have my work cut out the coming weeks. Title: Re: DHL at the door Post by: casken on July 03, 2008, 02:36:48 PM Thanks, keep us posted.
Title: Re: DHL at the door Post by: bluegate on July 03, 2008, 03:38:20 PM I use my FX to change between Rythm & Lead volumes, I only use the boost on the OD.
So I have Clean (no Boost), Crunch (OD no Boost) & Lead (OD with Boost) When I use FX, than my volume is raised by +4,5dB to cut through the bandmix. My settings are: Input = 6 Bright = on Deep = off R/J = Rock Treble = 4 (4,5) Mid = 5 Bass = 5 (4,5) OD = 4 Ratio = 3 Presence = 5 Title: Re: DHL at the door Post by: casken on July 03, 2008, 07:54:27 PM Is it possible the "fizz" may be partially due to the low volume with high gain? I am no technical guru but as one who plays at home volumes a lot that fizzy thing is common (when low with gain) on several amps I have had. Until they reach that point where they open up enough to hear the amps voice. I call it the break over point and every amp I have had has one.
In other words, in my experience you don't get the full plate of tone until the amp is allowed to speak loud enough to get it all out. The fizz in my experience is like an amp that is choked and only a smidge of what it is trying to say is allowed to come out. Now, hows that for technical prowess????? It is also what I pulled of my amp's experiences Every tube amp need some volume to sound good, under a certain volume, when you put some gain (from the amp or from pedal) the amp will sound "fuzzy" and "narrow". Title: Re: DHL at the door Post by: Nathan on July 04, 2008, 08:57:09 AM Eheh I just checked the DHL's website, and mine is in the DHL's facility next to my city.
It will be deliverd soon (certainly this day !) Woaw fast ! Much more than I was expected, consider that my packtage has been sent the July 02, 2008 in the late afternoon (local hoor) and that I'm living in France. I think that is a question of hours from now :) Title: Re: DHL at the door Post by: Steven_nl on July 04, 2008, 11:23:12 AM I'm sure you'll have a great weekend!
keep me posted. Wanna hear all about the use of your Kleinulator as well plzz. Make sure you have an adapter with a 2.5 mm plug. Be carefull it's not one with reversed polarity. With mine a regular 2.1 mm Boss type plug didn't fit. I bought a special extension cable to 2.5 mm but it turned out that it switched the polarity as well. Nearly fried my Kleinulator. :chairdance: Title: Re: DHL at the door Post by: jake on July 04, 2008, 12:13:53 PM I pretty much use the boost as my clean sound then use the tone stack just for the od. I set as follows
Vol 4 treb on deep on rock Treble 2 Mid 5 Bass 7 Level 3 Ratio 4 Master 1-2 Pres 4 My amp has all the J Zucker tweeks except I have 330 pf caps on V2. I play a strat and keep the guitars volume backed off on the boost and on the od. With both off I open the guitar up and can use pedals if I want. I have a Kleinulator on the way, I hope the 9v plug thing has been sorted out. I also snagged a TC G Sharp to put in the loop. Title: Re: DHL at the door Post by: hywelg on July 04, 2008, 12:48:29 PM I also snagged a TC G Sharp to put in the loop. Would really appreciate your opinions on the G-sharp in the loop with and without the kleinulator. Title: Re: DHL at the door Post by: lmassy on July 04, 2008, 12:55:20 PM This is not a high gain amp... what???? ;D you gotta lend an ear to this ;) http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?topic=532.0 |
