I'm not sure if I'm reading this right, but it seems as if the article is saying you can get more out of an OT by running the 8 ohm speaker out of the 4 ohm OT tap. Because I'm fairly new to electronics I wanted to ask you guys before trying this on my OTS; I do know that I can run my Mesa Lonestar that way,  and it is mentioned in the manual that it is considered a safe mismatch.

Well I have screwed up a few times and forgot to switch back to 8 ohms after running parallel cabinets. I ran the amp for several hours with no negative effects. On the other hand, I did not notice any change in tone. My OTS did not sound like I had put a Mercury Magnetics OT in it.

I run my overtone on a constant mismatch, no problems as long as your speaker impedance is bigger than your amps selected impedance.

There is a little change in tone; less bass more highs and it feels a lot different.

When asking a colleague musician if he could hear any difference he responded: One is like: EEEHHHH and the other like: OOOHHHH.
