Title: converting from 50w to 100w
Post by: Lindswood on September 23, 2009, 07:01:43 PM
Hello, i got a 50w OTS and i want to convert it to 100w, is it hard to do for a amp tech if i send the plans from a 100w with the amp? or is it just to install 2 extra tubesockets and conecting the to the others? im not at all handy with the tech part so "in a nuttchell" explonation would be nice.

Thanks

you'd need new transformers which will run you around $400. so if you change them make sure you get some real high quality ones.

I've been thinking of possibly doing a 2xKT88 100 watter. IMO the KT88 tubes have a much better bass response. It doesnt get "farty" or "flabby"just  nice and smooth like you would expect from a bass amp, while still retaining the other pleasurable qualities of the 6L6 sound. and you wouldnt need to wire in the extra sockets

I like the sound of that non-farty bass with a 100 watts. Do the KT88's entail something more than a rebias?

I saw the thread about KT88 from a while back. It seemed to imply that new hardware is required for the increased voltages.
