Post by: Franne500 on December 22, 2008, 02:59:38 PM
Hi all,

I am looking for a new set of power tubes for my OTS.

Can I use a 6L6WGB/5881/JAN PHILIPS if I Bias it correct ? Or is it a bad idea ?

What are your experiences ? Whats the best brand of tubes for the OTS ?

5881's should be ok in the OTS- I know Larry Carlton prefers them in his D*mble... just bias them correctly... as far as I know they're essentially a more rugged 6l6 that can cope with higher plate voltages- the OTS is around 430v... if you need it here's a link to the Weber bias calculator- very useful for sorting bias ranges... to be absolutely sure pop Nik an email...

Oh, yeah! I'm running Sovtek 5881's at 33ma. They sound great and the attack is a bit smoother than the 6L6s.  NOS 5881s ought to sound even better! Just get the bias right and your set. Me thinks you'll like!
