Title: Best way to mike a BM HRM Post by: cisjga on February 16, 2013, 11:46:35 PM Can any of you knoledgeable guys help me out in recording my amp. I have tried close miking the cab... Straight dead center off axis etc. I have tried 3 different microphones as well, with the best one being a Sennheizer e855. Up close I don't get the bigness and the sweetness in the recording that I hear while playing.
I then tried just recording through my cell phone sitting about 2 meters away from the amp and this was much better than up close miking in terms of biggness etc. It is a Bluesmaster HRM 50w and a 2x12 Open baxk cab with ET65's. BTW Seriously love this amp... Thanks in advance.. The trick is to find the right location of the rear by trial and error. For the front Off axis usually works best

I have a condenser that I can experiment with tommorow so I'll upfate on progress. My plan is to use 1 dynamic dead center or off axis and the condenser in the room about 2 metres away from the amp.
I will then take notes and also try the microphonre at the rear also. and update again. There will be a definite phase issue with the mice behind the cab in recpect to the mice on the front but that can easily be fixed through cubase, by inverting the signal/receording.. These amps are not easy to record... I've heard from engineers etc that they can be a bit of a nighmate in live stage situations etc.. Oh Well we will see tomorrow... What's so difficult about micing and recording a Bluesmaster with an open back 2x12? I have one with 2 different drivers and have no trouble. It's just a basic Fender Based circuit with a lil more low end grunt ;) Here's an article for ya. pretty much the same word for word as the article i read in Guitar Player Magazine back in high school... 20 years ago :) http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/2011/Jun/The_Secrets_of_Multi_Mic_ing.aspx Gregg Title: Re: Best way to mike a BM HRM Post by: cisjga on February 17, 2013, 10:23:56 PM Thanks Gregg,
Finally got something I like.. Ended up just going Sennheizer up front off axis and the rest was tweaking in Cubase. Eq - Expander - noise limiter and some very light chorus... https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1696618/jam6.mp3 The playing aint the best... I like the sound though.
