Title: Anyone Using a Zendrive (or derivative) with Their C-Tone? Post by: rane008 on August 22, 2012, 04:21:40 PM Hey Guys,
Was wondering if any of you were using a ZD with your C-tone. I had one years ago that I used with my Fender RI 59 Bassman and while I liked it, I don't think I appreciated it fully for what it was. Also, I think I wanted something with a bit more gain. Anyway, I know that Mayer has used them with this 2Rocks and Dumbles, so I thought I'd give it another whirl. Also, found a local guy here in NorCal who would do a clone for $130, so that cool! Thoughts? Title: Re: Anyone Using a Zendrive (or derivative) with Their C-Tone? Post by: mcinku on August 22, 2012, 07:31:34 PM I use one... a clone. I took my BB of the board for this one. Together with RC I don't need anything else really.

Would I buy it again? Ahhhh.... probably. It is a great lead OD pedal. It doesn't do subtle that well, for that I'd do the OCD again in a minute.....Was wondering if any of you were using a ZD with your C-tone. While the pedal is great, I'm in two minds if I should take it off my board. Agree that it doesn't clean up as well as an OCD which I also have
Title: Re: Anyone Using a Zendrive (or derivative) with Their C-Tone? Post by: shebbycaster on August 25, 2012, 08:13:48 PM I sometimes use a Zen Drive which is a great pedal. It sounds good with the OTS but I have found that the Zen can be tricky to dial in. Some people get very frustrated with it.
The OCD sounds very good and it's a bit easier to zero in on. It's a no brainer recommendation for anyone who is looking for high quality overdrive. If you are looking at a drive or boost pedal from a builder you feel good about and you like their sound clips, chances are it will do just fine in front of the OTS. Title: Re: Anyone Using a Zendrive (or derivative) with Their C-Tone? Post by: hurtwoodec on August 26, 2012, 04:40:18 AM I use mine to give another channel on my ots. Set for low gain it fills a gap left from clean to the od channel on the amp and then the pab. So I go
ch1 - clean zen - edgy rythms ch2 - leads (or more dirty rythms) ch2 pab - hangin it all out. it gives me the same ots (dumble flavour) at a lower gain setting than ch2. Title: Re: Anyone Using a Zendrive (or derivative) with Their C-Tone? Post by: Tone Control on August 29, 2012, 10:42:01 PM I have a BM50. I like the internal OD set to a modest amount of grit, but not Santana-type OD
When the BM50 is set to ultraclean I sometimes use a Zendrive 2 with it, works very well for slightly more driven tones For just a little grit, a Klone for feel but more grit, a Honeybee clone, backing off the vol with this is very Mayer I think I could ditch the rest and stick with these 3, but they are all doing something different, so choosing would be hard. All excellent for playing JMayer-range of sounds on a strat I tried a Zendrive v1.0. very nice, but the v2 is nicer |
