What is the difference between the Dumble "deep" and the mid boost on #124? Would this be an easy mod? Anyone here done this? Just curious. My OTS is AWESOME!!!!!!!! just the way it is, but, I still can't get that "deep", hollow,(like you can hear the glass on the tubes resonating) tone that Larry Carlton gets with his "deep" switch. Any thoughts? Thanks,     Bill

What kind of guitar are you using? I have an unmodded OTS that I received at the beginning of May (so it may have some of the changes initiated by earlier users). I get the tone that I believe you are referring to with either of my Les Pauls (humbuckers) and the OTS with the OD  & PAB on, all other switches  off (down) and the OD & Ratio at 7 (I have the internal trimmer set at 9.5, with original  the factory setting for the trimmer I would have had OD/Ratio at 5). This does not work with any of my single coil guitars (unless I put an OD pedal in between).

You can refer to the HRM layout for the Deep switch.

The HRM has both, deep and mid boost.

If you find the best bright cap you like, then get rid of the bright switch (put cap on vol pot, and mod as per HRM.

I am using a 335 w/ '57's, neck position on clean channel. I'm very happy with O/D. It's the clean depth I'm seeking.
Nik, thanks...I'll be using the bright switch for "deep" and replacing the volume pot w/ one that has a pull switch and adding the bright cap. Thanks for the input. By the way Nik I'm the guy in Vancouver WA USA that had the  busted faceplate and all the trouble getting my amp working. All is well now. I had the coil on the PAB plugged in backward and polarity on a resistor on V1 reversed. Simple fixes. Now I have the best sounding amp in the Pacific North West United States... in the opinions of a couple dozen friends and myself. ;) ;D 8)

Well, it's done. I finished the "deep" mod to my OTS. What I did was remove the FET board and input jack and installed a mini switch in it's place. Before I installed it, I wired it up per the deep switch on the HRM model. Then put it in place, soldered in the three resistor tails and voila! Now I have Bright, Deep, and Mid-boost! I took the FET out because I never used it anyway. I'll post my drawing for the mod soon. Easy stuff... I recommend doing it...if you don't need the FET input that is.  Merry Christmas and happy holidays!!!    Bill

Here is #124 with the deep switch before it was modified in 1988 to have a mid boost.

It opened fine in Acrobat Reader 8.1. Current version is 9 I think, perhaps you have an old version with which this document is not compatible.

For some reason, My new lap top didn't like that document. But, my older pc opened it just fine. That is the way I wired up my deep switch. Sounds absolutely amazing! I can now hear my "tubes resonating", those Carlton clean tones are right on the money now! Thanks for the input.   Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!    Bill

I have just done this mod, using the FET input jack as a mounting location for the switch and the HRM layout, and I can only hear a very slight difference. Is it a really subtle difference in sound when the deep switch is engaged or should I be going back inside the amp to check connections?

Use your mp3 player, play some music (through the amp) and than try the deep switch. This would give you an idea what deep does.

could you post a wiring diagram as to how you did this?  i would like to keep the bright switch and remove the FET and replace it with the mid boost switch.  regards laurie
