Title: The ideal speaker for Lightning? Post by: tomobedlam on April 21, 2010, 08:54:58 PM I ordered a new Lightning yesterday, and I'm trying to decide on a speaker for my 112. I'm thinking of either the Weber Silver Bell ceramic or Blue Dog Alnico(I had the BD in my Vox AC30). Anybody have an opinion on a good choice for this amp?
Thanks! Title: Re: The ideal speaker for Lightning? Post by: tresspassor on May 16, 2010, 04:25:34 AM I'd say to use a g12H30 if your stage volume is pretty loud. Alnico for sure if you play it at less than ear piercing volume. I tried several speakers and settled on a celestion blue. It keeps the vox-like clean tone of the amp and distorts well at lower volumes. BTW, this amp is a very conservative 15W. The damn thing can get louder than my 40 watters.

We just became WGS dealer, and I hope to try some with the Lightning! Thanks! nik Title: Re: The ideal speaker for Lightning? Post by: MarcMarc on January 27, 2012, 06:53:12 PM I have had great results with (2) 8 ohm greenbacks wired in parallel (4ohm load), as well as (1) Celestion Blue with (1) Celestion Gold, each 8 ohm wired in series (16 ohm load).
The Greens are warm and sparkly (like sitting next to a nice warm fire place in winter). While the Blue & Gold combination will absolutely Rip your face off and make you say "Thank you so very much, I love you" Just My opinion |
