Hi There,

Could someone elaborate on the sonic differences between the Creme Brulee and Lightning, as as the youtube clips I've seen are rather poorly recorded. I'm looking for a bright Jangly/Twangy project to build.

Thanks,
Rob

You probably want the Lightning.

The amps are each a different channel from the C-30.

The Lightning is based on the 12AX7 Clean Channel of the C-30, which is based on Vox's Top Boost Channel.

The Creme Brulee started as a custom request for Nik, it's the C-30's pentode EF86 Drive Channel, which is based on the original Vox preamp from 1959 (AC-15, early AC-30's).

Another option is the Spitfire, it as a little more midrange than the Lightning, but more headroom for clean tones as well.

Other options would be the Trinity Lightning kit, which actually offers both the EF86 and 12AX7 preamps in a 15-watt package.  Or the Vox Heritage AC15, which offers both, plus the early '60's triode EF86 preamp.

No the Creme Brulee is the distortion channel if the DC30.  The Lightning is the "Clean" channel, more Vox sparkle.
