Title: Who has a JTM50?
Post by: archtop on November 01, 2007, 01:34:19 AM
I've got a friend building me a JTM50 on a Ceriatone Chassis with Marstran transformers. It isn't quite done yet.

I'm hanging to hear it. I was kind of inspired by Germino Club 40 amp.

So who else has one, how are finding it's tone?

Got any Clips?

I hope everything will work out for you. it can be really frustating if something doesnt fit they you have to do this and that...
Keep up the good work and happy building

Hi,

  Cool. Hopefully it will fit.

As for the JTM50, this is not a really well known amp.

Often time, they're confused as JTM45 (thanks to the JTM block logo on the front).

Or people call it, JTM45, but with EL34 tubes. Thats been my exp. here.

I would be very interested if Roe and archtop can post clips, and comment on the sounds.

  Thanks!

Nik

This might be an odd question, but how would the JTM50 compare to the 1987 lead or 1986 bass? they're all 50 watters with EL34's, so I'm wondering.

I know the super leads sound a bit more aggressive compared to the JTM's for one thing.

I'm guessing the feel will be quite different. 1987 has a solid state rectifier versus valve rectifier... so perhaps the JTM50 won't be as loud and perhaps will sag more, and have a bit more harmonic content... maybe different attack characteristics too.... I'll let you know how I go.

Hi,

The JTM50 does have more of the JTM45 values to the components as well, ie it's not just 1987 with tube recto.

I love how these amps are so similar in layout, thats what's so smart about them, production wise.

Would be good to see how tweaking to 1987 specs bring you (only a few component changes).

  Thanks!
