Title: Magnetic componets 18023 PT in AFD 35 help needed
Post by: pepper on August 26, 2012, 06:22:58 PM
Hey Guys just finished wiring my MC trannys in a AFD 35 amp and on power up the PT starting smoking, should the 325V and 6.3v center taps both be grounded ? After I removed them from ground no smoke but no sound either. Iam running the relay off the 6.3v and that part is working fine, also Iam assuming having them grounded (if they both are suppose to be) at the same spot is fine, any ideals, do I have a bad PT (they were all new),thanks

Don't know if you fixed your problem yet but you most certainly need to ground the center tap of the power transformer!  The center tap of the heater leads should also be grounded (you will have a lot of hum if not) but that would not cause the PT to smoke- the HV center tap not being grounded will!  I hate to tell you but you most likely burned up the unit.
Don't think me too critical but should you really be messing around inside an amp?  This is basic stuff you have got to know before you go into the chassis.  Don't want to come off sounding negative but you can really hurt yourself and damage the amp.
