Title: JCM 2204 - newbe questions
Post by: davet on December 23, 2010, 09:54:24 PM
I can't find a 2204 around here to play, so I have couple of questions:

Are the Ceriatone's quiet? My old Blackface bassman is very noisy.

Is the preamp gain gradual, just sort of gives the amp a bit of an edge?

Will the amp play clean? I don't mean like Twin Reverb clean, a little grit is OK.

Anyone have the 1/2 power mod, is it available?

FWIW, the rock gods where I live pretty much play JCM 800's. I like the sound for sure,
but the guys that have them aren't to keen talking about how they're set up.
Thanks for any advice,
DaveT

Ceriatone is a s well made as ANY amp you can name. Believe me, my wife had a backline company for a few years. I have had my hands and eyes in Hiwatt, Fuchs, Roccaforte, Dr Z, Marshall, Fender, Tone King, Two Rock, Carol-Ann, Soul-tone, and quite a few others. Ceriatone is as well made as any out there.
Yes it will be quiet.
Yeah, you can get some sort of clean from an 800. Just turn down your guitar a bit and ease up on your pick attack.
Talk to Nik about the "half power" mod. I hate the way those triode mods sound. I think you would be more happy with a good master volume, or power scaling feature.
Do not hesitate to buy a Ceriatone. You will not be disappointed.
Good Luck
