Title: what EXACTLY does a pentode/triode half-power switch do?
Post by: StringSkunk on March 01, 2010, 08:45:27 AM
The subject pretty much says it all. I would love to know exactly what's going on in the tubes when I flick the pentode/triode switch.

It would seem to me that you are taking out a couple of the "plates" which control the electron flow. Less electrons=less power.

It basically ties the screens to the plates, creating a "triode" tube. That cuts down the power, but I have never really liked the effect. But it is an option, and you do not have to use it if you do not like it....
Good Luck

Interesting. I will be able to find this out for myself when I actually get the amp, but what kinda effects does this mechanism have on the sound?
