Title: UPS Import broker fees
Post by: davet on August 31, 2011, 05:39:44 PM
Called UPS about delivering a JCM 800. Since they would be the import broker of record I asked what the fees would be. They couldn't tell me.
So, anybody know what they charge?

TIA,
DaveT

Depends on the declared contents and value from the shipper (Nik) back in January my BM assembled chassis came with a $26 customs bill a few weeks later

Greg,
What I'm wondering is if UPS has an additional charge for the customs clearance part. UPS has already told me that the duty will be around $20.00. Nik says the UPS freight charges are $139.00. UPS says the $139.00 doesn't include the broker fee. My accountant (she who will not be named) hates big surprises when it come to gear purchases. :>) Just trying to get my ducks in row.
Thanks,
DT

On the few amps I've ordered from Nik the largest bill I got was about $26 or so as well. That is just import fees which you will be billed for a few weeks after shipment. That was for a $900 order! I am in California BTW I am assuming you are in the states so it will be somewhere near that figure.

Maybe contact UPS and ask how they determine price for import fees. Probably a percentage of declared value as Plasticvonaband said!

I'm in the US too (Florida) and aside from shipping, which is included in Nik's price all I paid was $26. I think brokerage fee and customs fee are one in the same, but I could be wrong. Mine came via ups as well. My c-lator shipped separately as I bought it later and I got no customs bill on it at all, I guess it comes down to declared value and contents as set by the exporter

My fees were the same as said here. I think you can feel confident there won't be any big suprises. I was worried about this too.

Hi

To USA, the tax is supposed to be 2%

On top of this, UPS charges abt USD 6 to collect on behalf of Uncle Sam.

So the fees are pretty much tax + brokerage fee.

Thanks!

Nik

I am also in Florida and my HRM came DHL back in June. I haven't been charged for any custom fees.
