Title: Tax and /or Duty in Europe?
Post by: Steven_nl on April 05, 2008, 10:44:24 AM
Hi
I live in the Netherlands.
I'm thinking of buying an Overtone (completely built version)
Do you think I will have to pay Import duty and/or tax (BTW)??

Thanks for your help

Answered in another thread, but I was using as a basis , my experience in the UK. I doubt you'll get away without paying the import duty (2-3% for all the EU I think), your rate of VAT, plus a handling charge (basically a fee for the convenience of having the courier collect the tax!) I hope you do though!

Cheers

2 or 3 % is not bad (VAT is another 19% I think). 20% is not to bad I guess.
Will look for that other post.

I have the imprssion there are different TAX rates if you order a kit in stead of a complete amp?

I really do hope the duty is different for a kit since thats what I've ordered! However I'm expecting to pay +20%. According to UK customs you have to pay VAT + duty on everything over about $40 worth goods, whether they are new, secondhand, parts or whatever, though sometimes stuff slips though the net.

I guess the way to look at it is - even if you do get charged the full amount of duty and tax etc, you're still getting one hell of an amp at a fraction of what other companies would charge you for similar..!!

At least that's how I'm justifying the extortionate levels of tax we have to pay when bringing goods into the country...
