Title: Singing blues tone? Post by: iantag on September 06, 2010, 01:42:40 AM which amp do you recommend for distorted blues tones, some amps are too harsh especially in the upper registers when it comes to wide bends a-la Albert King etc. I have a Fender super-sonic and its way too ice-picky...its not musical enough...would the stray cat 30 or one of the overtone specials suit. I want it to chime in a musical way...it has to take pedals well...I dont mind if the model needs a overdrive pedal to get it to the required tone but its got to have that musical clean sustain we all look for.

Any of the OTS models. They have that singing, overdrive and compression Lowell George and Bonnie Raitt used for overdriven slide work, and share a lot in common with the old Mesa sound you hear from someone like Carlos Santana (who has moved to Dumbles and clones himself). Just about every modern "guitar blues" genre player has used or does use something Dumble built or inspired. SRV, Robben Ford, Joe Bonamassa, Sonny Landreth, etc. Honest, IMHO, the tone has become a bit of a cliche. Plus you can have a Fender-esque clean tone. Title: Re: Singing blues tone? Post by: Nairbr on January 26, 2011, 05:10:10 AM Stray Cat is great on low gain settings for blues, this amp loves Strats and the amp has heaps of sustain. Its a Vox and a Marshall after a love affair and you need a A/B/Y box to get the most out of it.
Another good choice would be a HRM Bluesmaster. They are totally different sounding amps just depends on your flavor of blues and guitars. If I could mix and match I would love an amp with HRM cleans and with the Stray Cat gain channel Title: Re: Singing blues tone? We should note that Albert King sure didn't care if his tone was bright, harsh and ratty. While I'm a big fan of the man's music he (as well as B.B.) often left a lot to be desired in amp tone. Somehow he pulls it off though. Title: Re: Singing blues tone? Post by: glory6james on March 18, 2011, 10:16:57 AM Listen Music if it heals.
