Hello everyone...I just placed an order for an Overtone and recently joined this forum. A lot of great information here. I wanted to see if anyone that has ordered an amp from Nik in the US has had to pay any type of export or import fees or duties? Ive purchased items from other countries with no customs fees but never something this high dollar. Looking for some guidance and if there are fees...an idea of how much $ I'm looking at having to pay.  Thanks and looking forward to making some new friends in the tone freak world!

You might want to look on the US customs website for whatever tariff that may be imposed. However in my experience (I am in Taiwan) I am never charged tariff on any postal air shipment... but these amps are just parts and it could be declared as such so kinda hard to impose any kind of tariff on this unless its an insane amount...

Yeah but...I ordered the built one not the kit. Thats what has me a little concerned. If I had the time, I would buy the kit and build it from scratch but...with a full time job, a wife and 2 kids...it'll take me until 2010 to finish. LOL!

Hey -
I am in the USA and have never had to pay any type of tariff, duty, fee, customs charge, etc. etc. etc. I never bought a kit, I have 5-6 finished amps in a cabinet. Never any surprise charges or fees.  Smiley

I ordered a 5E3 prebuilt chassis a couple of months ago and got a bill from DHL for about $20.00 duty plus a $5.00 service charge from DHL. It was definitely a surprise.

Mind if I ask what country you're in?

zeeman, can you expand on how this affected your delivery time? I'm guessing Customs would hold it until the duty is paid? And I'm curious if you had a declared insured value, if maybe that triggers an import duty? I mean, it's weird how some folks are charged but not others.

I'm in Austin, TX, and should receive a JTM45BB this week. The suspense is killing me!

Zeeman...was this after the delivery or prior to it and what was the declared value of the shipment? Sorry about all the questions...just trying understand what to expect.

It didn't seem to effect delivery time. I didn't request anything special on the shipping so it was the standard DHL shipping Nik uses. I don't exactly remember but I think the declared value was around $250.00 U.S. dollars and was declared as guitar amp parts or something similar. Apparently DHL paid it and then sent me a bill a few weeks later for the amount they had to pay plus a service charge for paying it. I had no idea about it until I got the bill.

Edited to note that this is in no way a complaint against Nik. I just wasn't aware of it. Never ordered overseas before. The amp is incredible and I'm having a blast playing it.

I just got my Overtone on Friday, and as yet have received no customs bill, but I no doubt will.  Love that Overtone, though. . .woo hoo.  Only took like three days to get from Malaysia to Columbus, Ohio in the US.  It was well packed and pristine--I wanted to let the curious know, as I was a bit apprehensive on how things would transport.  Now, I just have to decide what else I want to order from Ceriatone.   Decisions, decisions. . .  Cheesy

Got my Overtone in 3 days from receiving the shipping info...simply AWESOME! No customs bill yet so...crossing my fingers. This thing sounds fantastic. All the hype is dead on. Hope to have some clips soon. I will update this post if I receive a customs bill.
