Hi Im new here, I just finished a Vibro CHamp the other day!

What is a choke and what is the purpose of one?

I'll try to answer...

...power supply output is essentially DC with some AC, "hum," riding "on top of it.", also known as ripple.
Choke acts a s a filter and as such it will give you less ripple.

This is not such a big factor with a low watt amp like Champ but the cost of a choke is not big, so why not.
 ;)

Ok that makes sense. So its kinda acting like a cap can or your standard filter caps.

... well not like a cap. It acts like a resistor, but a resistor with the inductance and that is what makes ripple go away.
