Title: Ceriatone Transformer Quality Post by: ampaddict on June 20, 2018, 05:00:17 AM I have a Yeti 100. The first power transformer that came with the kit, worked for about a week and then
the HV (purple leads) secondary fried. I got a replacement, that I paid for from, St. Nik. I installed the power transformer and started to test the outputs right after installation. I measure the HV, fine, measured the bias tap, fine, measured the 6v tap fine, measured the 5v tap fine, then as I am shutting of my DMM, I smell that familiar electrical burning short smell and the main fuse blows as a wisp of smoke comes from the transformer lead outlets. I checked the main 4 A fuse and sure enough it was blown. After ohming out the entire system and disconnecting the secondary leads from all circuitry, I find that the 6V secondary is shorted internally in the PT. I must say, that St. Nik really sells some junk power transformers. He claims to have them wound specially for CT. If it was me, I would change my source. They are real junk. As a matter of fact, most of the stuff, in his kits are either average, or cheap parts. I am an EE and work for a DOD contractor building missle systems; so I do know a little about this subject. If you really want to build one of St. Niks designs, then use good parts from a USA source, like ClassicTone, or Mercury or Hammond. All this guy does is copy someones designs, I have never seen anything original come from Ceriatone since it has existed. Well at least I gave them a chance; I was apprehensive about it, and now I know why. Ceriatone = really expensive junk. Title: Re: Ceriatone Transformer Quality Post by: wdsd on May 26, 2023, 02:00:28 PM Having used Ceriatone transformers in my amplifier for years, I can confidently say their quality is outstanding. Their craftsmanship ensures that every component, including the transformer, is built to last. It's like having a Reset HP Printer (https://www.workaroundtc.com/how-to-reset-hp-printer/), providing consistent and reliable performance. Highly recommended!
