Hello everybody  :)
Hopefully one or more of you will be able to help me here.
I've been looking at the overtone series in the past few weeks and having heard the various demos floating about on youtube i'm very impressed!
I was considering a 1x12 50 watt combo, any experiences there?
I'm after something with a little bit of diversity for both recording and live work, something to cover quite a bit of ground, am i looking at the right amp?
I was just wondering how anyone from the UK has fared ordering from Nik/Ceriatone (albeit all the reviews ive found have been very complimentary!) and what sort of postage costs/import fees you ended up getting.

Set it at $200 postage and £10 insurance
I'm not sure what the current postage is.

postage a combo chassis is more expensive, so think about getting a cab here - better to have it separate anyway.
A 2x12 is better for an OTD really.

The OTSs are all much more flexible than a normal amp. Decide on what sounds you want though.

I reckon the Bluesmaster HRM works the best for me, but I've only tried 2 and a Fuchs ODS

Which amps did you go for?

Essentially, im after one that'll cover quite a bit of tonal ground for some function work and just general playing. In terms of sounds, i guess that two rock sound john mayer gets, especially on the try album, all the way through to a pushed marshall sound ala van halen 1. I guess just enough to cover anything its possible to encounter in a function band!
I've heard a demo of the fuchs, sounded fantastic.

My ceriatones are in my sig. Plus a 5E3
My BM50 drove my Fuchs ODS away
It's the most flexible amp I've owned - it's very good for John Mayer sounds too - but I think only with a Celestion Gold or similar
Not sure you'll ever get VH out of a Fendery 6L6 amp though. Probably stick to Express or Marshall clones for that

I think a BM50 or BM100 plus a good OD pedal that contrasts with the Dumble OD is as good as you'll get to an amp that covers everything.
The clean sound is great, the light OD is great, the switches all do something useful. it does heavier OD too, but  I don't use it that way
Just be aware it takes a lot of work to get the dials right for you

I think so. Useful if they are near you and have the model you want, or you are reluctant to buy on recommendation.
I think the price is the same-ish, and if you go straight to Nik, you can order the custom extras, which has to be the nearest you get to being indulged like a big name player

They have had a holding page on that url for as long as I can remember and I've tried emailing them and never got a response.

Personally I'd just deal direct with Nik - his service seems to be far, far better!!

Probably best. It's cured me of worrying about long distances. After getting 3 amps from Nik directly, I thought about importing a Matchless directly, but in the end found a used one in England already. (The markup on Matchless amps is huge in England, second hand prices are barely cheaper than importing a new one from the USA, with full postage, insurance duty and VAT paid)
