Title: Got my PRS SE Santana....
Post by: plasticvonaband on May 06, 2011, 08:20:05 PM
So far it is very nice! Ordered it from Sweetwater.com. They do a very nice inspection/setup. All the guitar needed was a little truss rod adjustment to suit my preferences. It was even in tune an perfectly intonated when it arrived! Can't beat that!

So far it sounds awesome through the Bluesmaster. I will probably change out the wiring and pickups later and add some locking tuners, but for now I am very happy!

Very nice. I've been to the last 2 PRS open houses and the SE's are just getting nicer and nicer. It makes those of us who spent 3 grand on a PRS a little jealous.  ;)

Seriously though, the Satana SE's or SE Torero (for getting my metal rocks off) would be a serious consideration for me someday.

i finally got a chance to really dig in play it for a good solid couple of hours, and i have to say i am very, very impressed by it. I had initially sort of planned to switch out all of the electronics, based on my experiences with other korean made guitars (my dano and my epi sheraton), but to my surprise, everything actually sounds really nice! I popped open the control cavity and was greeted with Alpha pots, very clean, tidy wiring, and a treble bleed capacitor on the volume control!! i was shocked! The stock pickups sound like slightly overwound PAFs, and are a perfect match for the HRM BM so far. One of my fave settings so far is the clean channel cranked with the master about 5 and the c-lator controlling the master. this gives a nice growly overdrive and singing leads, and then i kick in the Mega PAB and it really sings!

One interesting thing about PRS guitars is that the wide fat neck. to me it seems neither overly wide nor fat, it feels just right, almost like the neck on my 76 les paul that i foolishly sold all those years ago. I am very very happy!  :chairdance:

Hi there, new to the Ceriatone Forum. This is my first post. I recently bought the Santana SE model as well. I have an original Santana III and I was looking around for a string breaker/seedy bar replacement. I am quite pleased with the SE over all.

I did replace the pickups with a pair of Santana III pickups as I want it to match my more expensive version as much as possible. They were very hard to find. If you see a pair for sale you had better buy them. PRS told me they are out of them but that the Dragon II's are almost the same pickup. I had Dragon II's in a PRS Custom 22 and since I had both guitars at the same time I respectfully disagree. The Custom II's did not clean up with the guitars volume knob like the Santana III's.

I also put on Schaller locking tuners. PRS locking tuners won't retrofit without redrilling. They work great. They still sound a bit diff but all and all I'm happy.

Very nice!! I'm thinking of swapping out mine for bare knuckle emeralds or bare knuckle emerald neck and bare knuckle abraxas bridge in the future, but for now I am happy. I haven't played an American PRS Santana, but I can only imagine based on the SE version how nice the US version must be!

Hey Gregg....nice PRS! (I love that colour)
I'm super impressed with the SE's as well
My friend just bought an SE1 (Korina)...it's awesome!
I'm tempted to get a Korina myself, I love the resonance
The SE Orianthe looks interesting with the Korina & maple top
(but I think it only comes in Red Sparkle)

The SE1 is the best out-of-the-box deal I've seen
(and my friend saved $400 buying it online from the US)
I did have a 10 top charcoal PRS years ago...I think the SE necks are better...not as clubby

Thanks for the compliments, squatch.

I dont't know why, but I love the bigger necks. It makes no sense because I have short fingers, but I think it's because they are short, but wide and my hands are wide, who know? It may be because the main guitar for years was a pancake les Paul custom from the late 70's and it had a pretty wide fat neck on it. The SE has quickly become my favorite, and I can't wait til the Bare Knuckle Emeralds arrive. I'm gonna wire em so I can split then individually, and the splits will be opposite (neck pickup split will be north coil, bridge pickup split will be south pole) so they will be humbucking when used together, and should give a good 2 & 4 strat position vibe. I'm also adding the guitarnuts 3 way tone cap switch (.022 up, .015 middle, .047 down) so it should be very versatile indeed.
