Title: Why? Post by: Brad737 on November 09, 2007, 04:27:32 AM Hello all, why did you select an Express vs. the Liverpool? I'm trying to decide which Trainwreck clone I want. With so few soundclips out there, it's hard to make up my mind.
Thanks, Brad Title: Re: Why? Post by: radiohead, lol on November 09, 2007, 03:16:30 PM express = more like a super lead (well, if it had to be compared to another amp)
liverpool = more like an AC30 I haven't heard the liverpool actually, but I love the sound of the express. Title: Re: Why? Post by: Brad737 on November 13, 2007, 08:29:33 AM Sweet. Thanks for the reply. That sort of makes sense to me. I have a kick-ass Super Lead, so I'm thinking I should go for a Liverpull, even though I LOVE the Express clips I've heard.
Thanks, Brad Title: Re: Why? Post by: Weathered on November 16, 2007, 02:44:42 PM Actually, they both share the same preamp structure. The only difference is in the power section. It comes down to whether you want the EL84 grind or the 6V6/EL34 thump. The Liverpool is cathode biased, which will make it seem to compress a little bit more (in my experience), and the Express is fixed bias, giving it a seemingly tighter low end.

At the risk of sounding like a moron by asking this question, would you elaborate on the difference between grind and thump? Maybe relate them to Page, Angus, Duane, or Hendrix? Do I seem old? I thave been listening to to some of the clips on YouTube but there are not many of these two amps. And it is hard to tell what the sound is really like because of the recording, room, guitar, player, etc.. Thanks: Gary |
