Very interested in this amp.  I've always been a fan of the Fisher design.  has anyone here assembled theirs from the kit?  Also, where do you source the head cabs from?

I bought a paint grade cab from Jim. Here is a link with a few pictures. The actual poplar cabinet he built for me appears near the end of the post. He is very familiar with the chassis' that Nik makes. The fit is verified and confirmed.

Do you mean pre-assembled? Personally I would get it pre-assembled, unless you've built amps before...it might be difficult if this is the first amp you're going to build.

As for cabs...Reason Amplification (I think they're called rhyme cabs or something now) makes great cabs, but their website seems to be down.

although, the reason cabs have had issues with the transformers hitting the part the back pannel attaches to. so you might have to take those off.

Yes, I was thinking of doing the build, but my labor rate cannot compete with theirs.  I would like to source a good TW type cab.

Trainwreck stuff tends to run right on the edge of where it can, so if you're not familiar with troubleshooting amps (oscillation, weird noises), it can be a bear to get it working right.

The value is there to have it built, but part of the reason I build amps is the actual build process, personally.   Wink

Hello,

  Thanks for the interest.

Well, we dont charge much to complete it.

For wooden cabs, yes the link should help. At least it sits with the rest of the furniture well, and the wife wont notice a new amp so much. Smiley

Thanks!

Since there is no schematic diagram supplied, it was challenging to built the TW just on the layout diagram alone. It did not explain whether star topology grounds could be used, etc. Unless you have worked with 400 volt circuits before I'd recommend not building the amp.

I bought my first Trainwreck from Nik an Express and I built my Liverpool from parts and it was not a difficult build but does require good soldering and lead dress.

Head cabs can be sourced, home build or check out the custum built cherry wood drawers from WoodCraft.com that many of us use to build your own head cab from if your are not good with saws.

Everything you need can come from Nik (parts) or buy completely built or build your own.
