Title: Re: Muchle$$ Chieftain? Post by: wyatt on October 24, 2008, 03:21:26 PM Chieftain and Marshall power amps are not the same.
The Chieftain is cathode biased with no negative feedback. Tube rectified power supply. You may be able to just punch one of the Dizzy 30's noval socket holes for an octal and use that chassis, if you can make the iron fit. Title: Re: Muchle$$ Chieftain? is that really all the difference? a 50 watt vox? Title: Re: Muchle$$ Chieftain? Post by: wyatt on October 24, 2008, 09:06:17 PM hey NIK!!!!! hint hint! is that really all the difference? a 50 watt vox? Well, there was an AC-50, but it and the Chieftain aren't the same power amp wise. I should have looked at the schematic before my last post. Here is the schematic for the Chieftain Reverb. http://www.bnv-gz.de/~ooehmann/schematics/matchless/Chieftain.pdf Looks like the Chieftain has a unique preamp setup from other classic Matchless. So, the Dizzy 30 guts and layout won't help you. I looks like if you dropped the reverb, you could use a Marshall or Overtone chassis. If you need V3 and V4 for the reverb, it'll take a couple of extra noval punches. Nik may be able to help with parts, but if you plan of building it yourself, you are lookingat parting it out piece by piece and designing the turretboard. Title: Re: Muchle$$ Chieftain?
