Title: a dummy load built inside the head cabinet
Post by: rahimiiii on July 15, 2008, 01:07:05 AM
I was wondering why not wire a dummy load inside a head chassis so that if someone turns on the amp without a speaker connected it would protect the amp from damage. It's in case there are people using the amp and they don't know what they're doing.... Obviously the dummy load would disengage when a speaker is connected...

I have 2 small amps with this built in (5w and 10w),
it is reassuring, probably harder to do for bigger amps

AFAIK there is another issue which is that someone might plug a speaker in while the amp is on:
as the jack goes in does it momentarily short the ground and tip ??? Probably depends on socket design.

cheers
