Title: Someone please help.... Post by: ry-guy on December 23, 2010, 08:31:28 AM So I have a Dizzy 30 that I bought from Nik and recently the volume cuts in and out and then I end up frying one of the resistors by the 12ax7 tubes. so far its only been on the "lightning" side that I fry them. I mean I've literally had smoke come out of the amp. I took it to a tech who thought it was a phase invertor tube but we switched the tube, everything was working fine and then bam....again tonight, mid gig, the sound started cutting in and out and then smoke came out of the amp. used the ef86 side and it was all good...any thoughts?

Something is drawing a lot of current through that resistor. You need to be careful while you are in there. It is possible that your power supply caps still have a pretty big charge in them. It will not hurt you to just take a look though.
Regarding your tech. Do you not feel comfortable taking the amp back to him? You may have had two problems and he fixed one of them, could be an intermittent "thing" that he missed.
