I bought the DC-30 for the clean tone (gig country and mellow) but I really wanted the TW Expression because I like classic, power rock when we jam and goof around. Budjet for only one choice... gigging won.

I figured if I didn't think the drive was hot enough I'd put a pedal on it. So far I've tried the several pedals we have laying around here and was disapointed:

Rocktron Austin Gold - Worked excellent on my SE Class A. I could back the gain off the amp and it made the sound hot without sounding overly fizzy, feedback was easy. On the DC-30, it just sounds fizzy on both channels.

Barber LTD - Very nice OD pedal. Sounds awesome on the clean channel of a transistor amp. On the DC-30 it sounds thin and fizzy like something is fried.

I know some will recomend a TD-9 or TS.... I've never really cared for that tone (thats what I call the fizzy tone).

Is there a pedal that will be transparent enough that it wont color the tone (or sap it out) but push the amp to sound more like a TW? Think Mississippi Queen by Mountain.

I'm looking for comments with first hand experience. A sound clip would be great.

I have four different overdrives...

Original ts 808 ....
Paul cochrane Tim
paul cochrane Timmy
fulltone ocd

ok the 808 sounds good a nice bitty midrange but to my ears this pedal sounds ok
honestly I'd rather overdrive the channel sounds better than this one...

Fulltone ocd... Incredibly transparent pedal, it can get nce and dirty but when you pick light or strum lightly it really cleans up well.. The high pass & low pass filter is nice too..

Paul cochrane Timmy ... To me I use the in conjunction with the Tim pedal... But as an overdrive it is very very nice... The tone controls are cut controls so more is less.. But man it just plain adds to the tone of the dc even if it's at a low drive level it just adds something special to the amp.

So I use the Timmy as a tone shaper first then I set the Tim as my overdrive.. The Tim has an additinol boost with level & tone... It's an incredible pedal on it's own ... It's a little softer sounding to me than the Timmy, the Timmy has a bit more midrange bite to my ears,

I use a tele with a humbucker in the neck on the top boost channel

Chain is

Tele-Timmy-Tim-ernieball volume-line6 dl4 modded-boss ns2--dc30----1x12 avatar openback with English greenback 16 ohm 25 watt.....

I would say if you can find one go for the Tim pedal it just has mrs versatility, it has an effects loop too that is active when the pedal is engaged.. So really you get a overdrive a boost and a descrete effects loop to that pedal....

Paul is a super nice guy he's in nashville tn..  Usual wait time is around 6-8 weeks

There's plenty of clips on YouTube of this pedal in action

Good luck

Fulltone Fulldrive II - Mosfet edition.
The best OD pedal I ever played. I haven't played ALL of them but quite a few.

+1

While I haven't played them all either....the one I find myself coming back to frequently is the FDII (at least for my amps and guitars) and it is one of my favorites in front of the C-30.

What is so good about the Fulltone is that it seems to work real well with a lot of different amps.   I would also mention:
1.  T-Rex
2.  One of the many modified versions of the Boss BD-2

Of the o/d's that I have tried the Menatone red Snapper is really good for light O/D and the Xotic BB for crunch/marshallesque gain. I also have an Xotic BB which I use as a clean boost, very transparent.

Xotic Ac is not bad but not as good as the other two, and a Menatone TBIAC mimics an AC30 which is not so good, better through the clean of an OTS IMO, the DC30 channel 1 has too much of that AC30 going on already. Just acquired a Menatone Blue Collar (Marshall JCM800 ish) and thats a bit too much also, better thro' the OTS.

Becasue the DC30 has such a nice vibrant clean, you probably need an OD with a mellow top end.

If I were looking to put a pedal in front of and amp like the DC30, I'd seriously consider something from Damage Control.

Take a look at: http://damagecontrolusa.com/Products/
