Title: DC-30 Effects loop INOP??
Post by: koffee_iv on September 07, 2009, 11:44:48 PM
Of course I love the sound of the amp dry (it's not dry) but I want my holy grail in the loop, but not in front, for surf.  I tried to hook it up to the effects loop (never done anything like this before) and the amp doesn't make a sound. I tried every combination of 1-2, in - out.

Any ideas?

I'm stating the obvious but you need a 'Y' cord- stereo jack at one end to two mono 1/4" jacks- can't remember now if the tip or ring is send/return but check you have this configuration...

Thanks for stating the obvious. Could you or someone else be a little more obvious since my DC-30 didn't come with directions... or pictures. I have no foggy idea what I would do with a stereo Y cord and my holy grail in those back two imputs labeled channel 1 and channel 2 effects. That is why I asked the original question.

Mitch reffers as the obvious because is well known the effect loop on the DC30 works slightly different the other effect loops on other amps. Some small research would lead you to find that each channel has an independent effect loop.
The jacks are not SEND and RETURN as you see in most amps. One jack is SEND/RETURN for one channel, and the other jack is for 2nd channel.
You need a Y cable to split the SEND and the RETURN on each channel. You need 2 Y cables to use both loops.

The tip is the send, the ring is the return, the sleeve is ground.

Thanks alwalt,

Apparently not everyone knows those obvious bit's and pieces and my research started here.

If I want reverb on each channel, I'll need two independant reverbs? I do have a ABY box, so if I blend the channels with a reverb on one, it'll be essentially blending dry and wet, right?

anyone want to draw me a picture on this (please!)...I have one Y cord...are you saying that I need 2? And if so, where does it go? I'm very ignorant about this stuff - bought this amp for my son who uses a lot of effects and I'm a visual learner so any kind of schematic explanation would be of great help! Sorry for the burden on this but as I said I'm ignorant and really want my kiddo to get all he can out of this amp!

Thanks so much! Feel free to send via email if it's easier!

What you need is called an insert cable where the send goes down one core and the return along another of a twin core mic cable. Ground is common

The attached are from my PA manual. Note that the pair of jacks can be mono.

Will this work to use one Holy Grail to go to both channel's for the effects input's?
