Title: Another new build! Post by: marc5 on June 04, 2012, 03:03:31 AM Would just like to show off some pictures of my build.
My first amp i've built. No experience before apart from a few effects pedals. Sounds great so far. only amp i had before was a egnater tweaker 15. This is a whole different beast altogether. I build the cabinet up from spare planks i had from my house remodeling. it is walnut. my carpentry is kinda basic, i used a template to cut the dovetails. made the cabinet slightly larger so i could maybe put in a spring reverb eventually. I also used TDS's OT and PT for the build. Title: Re: Another new build! Post by: marc5 on June 04, 2012, 03:06:36 AM more pics
I also swapped out the master volume for a law/mar type that i researched online.w The OT shield i modified a little from Niks kit as i wanted a more compact look to it. Works well, no noise whatsoever. Title: Re: Another new build! Post by: marc5 on June 04, 2012, 03:12:24 AM The completed cabinet
Title: Re: Another new build! Post by: ShadowPlay on June 04, 2012, 09:36:29 PM Wow, very nice.
Much like you prior, I have only built a couple effects pedals, but not sure I could tackle a whole amp. So, did it go fairly easy? Were you able to check your work as you went along? Title: Re: Another new build! Post by: marc5 on June 04, 2012, 11:46:01 PM Building the amp wasn't difficult. Took me 3 weeks to do it. I did take my time, building it up
Portion by portion. I made a light bulb limiter to turn it on without any tubes in it. Thankfully everything worked first time. I did make sure all the solder joints were proper. And I did continuity tests with a dmm. The only problem I had was I blew a fuse initially but I think it was because I was switching the hi lo power switch with the amp on. If u need any help in your build I'd be glad to help. Regards Marc Title: Re: Another new build! Post by: ShadowPlay on June 05, 2012, 01:54:37 AM I appreciate the response and the offer to help.
Although building an amp is on my bucket list, I had better leave it to you pros for now. Keep up the good work. |
