Hi ChrisL,
LOL. Consider yourself lucky! My seven-year-old daughter is now in her heavy (as in nauseous) High School Musical thing!
Try concentrating with that!

Thou I come from north Europe southern bluesrock is something for me.  ;)I was first class in high school in 70`s when heard first time Allman Bros, Lynyrd Skynyrd and old ZZ Top. That was exactly the sound what I hear inside my head. In 90`s several years I listen only classical, Sibelius and Bach mostly, but "new" ABB with Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks took me back "Where it all begins". Jazz is also fun music, including bepop and hard pop, and it`s very "stimulating" to play it too Tongue Tongue

I like a wide range of music.

I think I gravitate towards artists rather than genres though.

Right now...
Emmylou Harris "Red Dirt Girl" (dark and mysterious country/folk thing)
Sheryl Crow "C'mon, C'mon" (fun, 70's rock/pop influenced with a few epic numbers thrown in)
John Scofield Ray Charles Tribute CD (very funky guitar and B3 playing)
Mute Math (electro-rock with fantastic melodies and uber energy)

i most of time play music instead to listen it, but when am makig stuff on comp or am in car i listen music and when i do it's the music i usually play lol.

mostly jimi hendrix, then stuff like led zeppelin, cream, black sabbath, deep purple etc..
i didn't vote since this isnt a particular categorie of music i think. mostyl blues metal, and i also like listening rock like motley crue or ac/dc sometime but not to play it and that happen rarly.

I'm a younger guy, and my mood is always shifting, but currently I'm into indie, alt/rock, experimental.  When I listen to music, I usually only hear the guitar because I'm so fixated on what they're doing.  Don't get me wrong, I hear the rest of the stuff, but I'm listening to the guitar the most.

My top songs at the moment are:

Apocalypso by Mew (very cool guitar riff, great drums, weird timing, it's great)
most things by radiohead
Anything by Muse
anything by Doug Pettibone
RHCP - Dani Ca
Incubus - DIG - can't beat his tone (but I can get it with my Creme Brulee)

My favorite bands:
60's British rock, Beatles, Who, Stones...
70's British rock, Deep purple, Led Zep, Genesis, Supertramp, Elton john, Yes...
80's Malmsteen, Iron Maiden, Dio, Yngwie, Helloween, Rising Force...
90's and 2000's Rhapsody, Sonata arctica, Yngwie Malmsteen, Stratovarius, Icewind...

Lately, I've listened to a bit of 50's blues; maybe I'm getting old...

I like all of the above. But could we expand this topic to what sounds do we like to here? Or does anyone have a favourite key or time signature?

I like the sound of waves (not soundwaves but the big washy watery things at the beach). Whereas, I hate the sound of babies crying.

Nigel Tufnell thinks D minor is the saddest of all keys and Ritchie Blackmore really rates G minor because it is dark and brooding. Does anyone like major keys - I like them, especially when using a capo. Am I losing anyone?

I would have to say hendrix is the top of the list followed by John Frusciante, I love all blues from Robert  Johnson to the modern - actually I love all sound waves that are produced with passion and care!

but most of all if it is produced with the help of a beautiful amp

I listen to Jazz, Blues, Rock, Metal... I like instrumental pieces more than ones with lyrics for some reason, as long as it's not too depressing and/or boring (Joe Satriani's Dreaming #11 comes to mind)

I loathe rap however don't want anything to do with it... I can't stand computer music with excessive bass beats. I like to go to a death metal event for the chance to mosh pit but as for listening, no way... used to like speed metal but got tired of it... alot of them are boring and are really nothing more than simple riffs thats played too fast.

I mainly listen to australian rock like:
AC/DC, midnight oil, the angels, rose tattoo, the living end Ect... but i also listen to other band like:
Jimi hendrix, led zeppelin, black sabbath, allman broth..., lynryd skynryd, georgia sattelites, george thorogood, mastodon, alice in chains
mainly rock, bluse but i will listen to anything with a good guitar note, playing and good singing.

If you like AC/DC I STRONGLY suggest you check out the angels and rose tattoo both bands use cranked marshalls with rose tattoo being as loud as AC/DC were back in the day before hugh P.A's were invented.
actualy AC/DC heard both bands and liked them and got them singed to there label.

The angels sound is more pollished and slightly more complexed song structure compared to ac/dc with less yelly singing.

Angels best songs- take a long line, Marseilles, no secrets, am i ever gunna see your face, comin' down

Rose tattoo is a bit heavier than ac/dc with pete wells plays george thorogood style slide on all songs and angry andersons sings in a very similar style to bon scott. wells is considered the australian keith richards.

Rose tattoo's best song- bad boy for love, we can't be beaten, nice boys(no G&R didn't write it)

I don't know why both bands didn't make it world wide but they both had hit after hit in ausralia and are icons here
