Title: Speaker For Tweed Deluxe
Post by: cmoore on November 01, 2007, 12:17:21 AM
I have tried several and finally settled on a unlikely candidate. I installed an Emi Legend 1228 AlNiCo black frame. These are the 35 watt models. Not the most common of speakers, but if you can find one it is worth the effort.

A friend of mine has an orignal 59 deluxe and the speaker has been changed to an eminence w/black frame and it sounds great.

I´ve tried a Celestion G12H30 and currently have a Jensen Reissue P12Q.. I know some people don´t like the Jensen reissue.. but I´m quite happy with it...  The G12H30 had a bigger headroom, but it sounded too dark (and the 5E3 is already a bit on the "dark side".. ahhh.. that was interesting to write) :D

Celestion speakers have a good reputation so thats why most people choose them. Dont be afraid to try different kind of speakers you may suprised to even get a better sound.

Would have tried one if we had one. I guess "The Blue" is the yardstick we use to measure many other speakers.   :)

Hello all,

Great!

I mainly use my 2x12 cab that has vintage 30 and G12H in it.

Indeed, do try em all out. Eminence seems to be putting a lot of options onto the table, and so has other companies like weber, and such.

Which is great!

Or if your place has lots of junk, the old hi fi speakers can be surprising finds as well (if they work). Alas, these go for so much money on ebay these days so they might be scarce now.

Thanks!

Nik

I tried just two speakers with my 5E3... Jensen C12K - nice speaker but to dark, my next choice was Celestion Greenback and I was sold just as soon as I heard it  :D.

Maybe there are even better speakers out there but I'm happy with my choice.

I just scored a 1961 Jensen P12N that I am going to try in a homebrew 5E3. The Cabinet is coming from Mergili Inovations and I am getting a Mission Amps 5E3 chassis kit for it. i will build it totally stock, my first Mission 5E3 sold sold for a small profit. I've done two other 5E3 homebrews and people begged me to sell the amps to them, now I feel the need for tweed again.
