Title: Build issues
Post by: kurnol on April 24, 2008, 10:17:22 AM
Gday all, finished my ceriatone tweed deluxe a few weeks ago now, didnt really get chance to try it out till this week.
When testing I found when i was using input 1 on the instrument channel and turned the volume all the way up I started to get strange noises, its a high pitched noise like tuning a radio (between 10 and 11 on the volume knob)

Also the volume seems to max out once I get to about 2 on the control, this fault occurs on both inputs on both channels. I discovered tonight (by accident) if I have the volume maxed out on the channel I am not using neither of these problems arise?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the channel not being used should not have any effect on the other?

thanks in advance

Sounds like you have some bad oscillation (the squealing noise) going on. Lead dress can be a culprit, but you need to check with a more capable tech than me.
The Tweed Deluxe has very active controls, one affects the other. Take a look at the layout and you will see the relationship between the input jacks and the volume controls.
As far as the lack of headroom is concerned... did you make sure that you have a 12AY7 in V1 and not a 12AX7.
Wish I could be of more help.
Good Luck

Thanks hh
I realise now the controls are interactive,  also it reaches max volume between 2-3  :)

There are some wacky things that happen when you turn up the unused Volume to 12, but that' snot exactly the problem you are having.  I won't be able to crank my '60 until Tuesday, but I'll see what the real deal is supposed to do (or at least what mine does).
