Post by: Kerzeck on March 06, 2008, 03:21:28 AM
Wondering what the cost is for a 5E3 with the following options...

2x12 cab like the TweedTwin
Complete amp (no speakers)
Master Volume
Low-power...pentode/triode...switch(if thats even possible)

Thank you

Why isn't there a price list on the website?

Custom work requires a custom  quote.

I would pass on the cab from Nik unless you live close to Malaysia or don't have any domestic options.  Shipping a large cab to the U.S. for instance can add hundreds in shipping costs.

Also, it's a 12-watt amp, unless you mod it for a more powerful poweramp, some of your options may be overkill.  A Pentode/Triode switch would probably make it too mushy (a 5E3's OD is sorta mushy as is).  A Master Volume can kill the power tube OD that it's famous for.  I would consider an attenuator or a power scaling (google London Power) instead.

So if you order multiple amps (chassis only) do they pack them in one box?  Is shipping based on total or individual weight?

Instead of me starting another thread in the Marshall forum...is the 18w TMB EF86 a good candidate for a master volume?  I'm looking for a low wattage tube chassis that can get a good, reasonably low volume, MV distortion and still be low power enough to crank (an 18w with pentode/triode and MV would be nice).

I would think you could request one shipment if the shipping does work out to be less.

A PPI MV should work good with a 18-watt Marshall, though these days I like the idea of Power Scaling (http://"http://www.powerscaling.com/") better.
